Hi Ray,
that is no surprise, if you have switched to new version.
An unsuccessful bugfix can break things quite a bit.
Best,
Matthias.
Yes I had a couple with 0.4a2 but then I went back to 0.4a and got 4 with that. So could be I've hit the old bug 4 times perhaps. Not sure.

Thanks for reporting all bugs. It appears that the fix that is in 0.4a2 broke something. I'll hope to get it all fixed soon.

BTW, does anyone have an EPD with FRC castling positions?
This would be usful to test the next version, before publishing it...

It turned out that the previous fix was ineffective for UCI (e.g. Kc1 was detected but d1c1, without the K was not).

A different FRC bug, reported by Ray Banks, and present in both 0.4a and 0.4a2, caused occasional crashes.
e.g., in positions like these:
[d]Rr2krnb/1pp1pp1p/6p1/3p4/3P4/1q2BN2/2bQPPPP/R5KB b kq - 0 21
bright would allow black to castle long, crashing later on when it's king got captured.

A patch version, bright-0.4a3, contains fixes for both bugs. It is available from:
http://members.ziggo.nl/allard.siemelink/bright/

I have tested the patch against all seven or so positions I got from Ray, and all seems ok now.
Please let me know in case any other (or the same) bugs might turn up.

Here are the first 8 games versus Spike 1.2 Turin, the only problem that I see is that Bright 0.4a3 is Not developing its pieces fast enough under Chess960 :o

Hi Jorge,
please send pgn after 50 games to mgemuh[@]yahoo_dot_com.
Bright is apparently not searching deep enough on your hardware.
Interesting would be to see how Bright fares at normal chess against Spike on your hardware, using a different GUI.
Best,
Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Best,

After 22 games, BrightFRC 0.4a3 is leading 12.5:9.5 against Spike 1.2.
That is enough to prove that Bright is not handicapped on my hardware.
GUI used is ChessGUI.
I will now test general stability at bullet time controll.

Matthias.

I am trying to play through all 960 positions, alternating colours.
Time control is game/30sec and GUI is ChessGUI.
No loss on time for any of the 2 engines so far.

After 277 positions and 554 games, score is 326.5 : 227.5 for BrightFRC

Matthias is right: bright is not searching deep enough on your configuration (depth 4 all over the place!). This is proably caused by
- allocating too many threads to the engine
- other programs consuming too much cpu time, interfering with bright
- the hash table size is set too big (causing swapping and cpu usage near 0%)

Great, finally the bugfix seems to have a positive effect :)
