2D except when playing Delfi which IMO has the best 3D board of all.

3D board in chess? No way!

Chess is a mind game. Tactics...Tactics...Tactics. So I think I'd solve hundreds of tactical puzzles quicker and with more accuracy in a 2D board than I'd have under 3D.

I have used the 2.5D board on occasion. It does not distract like 3D does

It is funny how many programs likw Chessmaster make all these 3D sets and probably very few use them

Same with real life sets like Civil War sets and the such. If you have to think too much of what a piece represents than it interrupts your internal calculator :)

Ted,

With Aquarium and Deep Rybka 3 64bit I always use the 2D board because I don't need glitzy distractions when I am fighting for my life.
When I play that simpleminded Windows Vista Chess Titans program I always do 3D. I assumed that you were referring to hard-hitting killer chess programs and not toys.

Tj

PS You can use Chess Titans as a mental status test. If you can't beat it at the highest levels then you are either drunk, stoned or severely sleep deprived. IOW, don't drive your car if you can't beat
