Interview with Vishy Anand.

Post by fern »

Next tuesday I will interview Vishy por a Sunday news magazine. It will be the only press interview he will give here in Chile and I was selected to do it because of my old relations with the chess comunity here and specially because, between my colleagues, I am the only one with some decent chess level.
The interview will be done playing with him a semi rapid game, so it has been planed.
So, pals, what you would like to ask Vishy NOT uniquely asociated wirth chess?
I will NOt do a chess interview at all or just minimally. Nevertheless, you can add some if you want.
I appreciate any good idea from you all.

Anand is a unique competitor in that he faced Kasparov for the World Championship in 1995 and lost and then over a decade later he won the Championship in 2008

i dont think many competitors in any sport at that level accomplished something like that

in 1995 Chess Computers did not have a significant influence on the game at the top levels
Today .. 2008 ..they were of course a crucial tool for the top players

i wonder if he feels the rise of chess computers and the use of them for training ..was the extra boost he needed to propel him over the top?

Blending CCC and Anand Regards

If you haven't seen the recent (April 2009) 20min interview of Vishy Anand on YouTube, then these should aid in your research:

For me, I would ask him "What next?" (after chess). Good luck.

Will he play for ever, as most chess players, or he will retire eventually like Kasparov. If he retires, what would he do? is politics into the equation?

Has he met famous political figures and/or head to states? which one was he most impressed with? or less impressed? Did he play any?

Does he meet some friends from childhood? Does he keep contact with his early life, neighborhood and town?

Ask him for his opinion about Kasparov's latest interview about declining with age. That might ignite a spark. It would be interesting to hear his take on that.
