Ive Managed to improve Mainsworthy, but I still think mainsworthy is an Engine as is, so I left it at 60,00,3. SonOfMainsworthy beats its predesessor and gives a better game I think still testing but its working ok on the Engines Ive got so far.

Thanks mark - on first go i was beating som 02 then match terminated in arena because of an illegal move by som - so i'll give 04 a go and see if that fairs better.
I enjoyed playing it till that point

Thanks Mark, I believe its ok now , the 04 version rolled back to the better legal movegen, I was trying to change the move order, for the algo in 01 & 02 without success.

2 bugs i found in 04 (i believe there are in 02 as well)

1. If you take back move then continue game - illegal move error

2. If you save game then go back to play later - illegal move error again

both in arena 2.01 under xp sp3

Mark Thanks for pointing that out, but its not an error, its a limitation to the engine it only understands NEW and GO, I adapted a text chess program to get into Olivers Chesswar, so you can start a new game with new, and then straightway play as white or GO play as black. mid game side changes and take bake are not features. I think I said this in the text file(I know I never read them either)

Just tried som 2.9.6 it looks like those issues have been resolved now - Good job! (resumes game after pgn save and move takeback)

Seems to play a better game than before but still easily beatable - the engine seems not to value pieces properly - let me exchange my pawn for his knight.
But i can see this is a good basis for a better engine so keep with it

Matthias, its a nightmare with version numbers, its for my own purpose realy I go through many tests to get a good version out of the mess and take many numbers , in the end I just guess at a number I will remeber, Eienstien was caotic I belive so Im in good company
