My favorite piece is not amongst the options, so I cannot vote. It is the Archbishop, wich moves like a Bishop or Knight. It is a wonderfully elegant piece, because the moves of B and N complement each other very well. As a result it is nearly as powerful as a Queen.
Too bad about the name, though. It should really have been called 'Dancer', as this is the distinct impression it leaves when you see an engine use it in bitz games.
What is your favourite chess piece?

Actually, accordng to FIDE rules, you cannot lose without one! Without king, you cannot be mated, and the worst that can happen to you is that you lose all your pieces, after which it s stalemate.Ryan Benitez wrote:I voted king. I have never won without one.

A Commoner (a piece that moves like a King, but is not royal, and can be sacrificed like any other piece) is also a very nbeutiful piece, especially in the end-game. In fact many end-games of King+Commoner vs King+Commoner are not drawn (as you mght expect), but won one way or the other, through extermely intricate manouevring.
