You are right! How do you define "twice as strong"? :P

To score 2/3 against the opponent :P
(means 120 Elo points more, which is more than 60-70 points from doubling the speed).

Win 99.999% of the time, virtually unbeatable, even draws will almost never ever happen. Also, most games are over before move 20! Twice as Strong! :P

It's clearly not twice as strong I exaggerated but the 64 bit version of Rybka 3 is clearly stronger than the 32 bit version of Rybka. I don't know by how much though.

64 bit Rybka is stronger because it gives the RAM a larger, 64-bit address space.

It's not because of that, RAM doesn't matter, as 2Giga are enough for even a long game. 60-70% speedup is due to the fact that Rybka is a bitboard engine, unlike Fruit.

Exactly !
Chessboard is represented by a 64 bits binary, with a 64 bits CPU, the functions on this bitboard is made in 1 times on 32 bits CPU, they are made in 2 times.

Phil Harris's Rybka is much stronger than mine. I don't know if it's 2 times stronger but it's much stronger than mine.

He uses an Intel core i7 920 with 3 GB of DDR3 and a 64-bit operating system which yields much better results than "my" Rybka. His rybka does in only 2 or 3 seconds what mine does in about 8 or sometimes even 20 minutes.

if twice as strong means winning 99.999%, how much is 4, 10, 20 times as strong?...

Robert

twice as strong means one is 3000 elo strong, the other is 6000 elo strong.
20x as strong means one is 3000 elo strong, the other is 60000 elo strong.

Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.
