An Old Chess Robot

Post by Steve B »

i dusted off the Mephisto Phantom to see if it still works OK
the Mephisto Robot is the same exact computer as the Fidelity Phantom and was released for sale when Mephisto bought out and owned Fidelity
it contained the Fidelity Par Program

Image

i tried a game against the CM10K running on my laptop
Time controls were 40/2 for the Phantom and Game 30/min for CM10K
CM 10K had pondering disabled

it wasn't much of a fight but at least the Phantom is still working OK

Beatiful machine. BTW, yesterday I dusted off superconny and played a hard game at level 6 with tne result of a draw. He surprised me in the openning -not difficult; I scarcely know that area of the game- and so I was compeled to fight from scratch, so I am happy with such result against mighty SC in that conditions.

Nothing is better than dedicated units for pleasure regards

My dear Steve, it was a draw, not a win. Anyway I have not such a printer and even If I had one, I would not use it.

OK
you inspired me to play a game myself against the Phantom Robot
remember Fern ..this baby has the highly powerful Par Program which is rated about 2000 elo at fast time controls
i played a Game/15 Min and took the black pieces
Sadly i was up a Rook for a pawn but botched the endgame and the Phantom escaped with an undeserving draw

Thanks Dr.D
of course the difference is that you win or draw against 2600+ PC engines and i am happy to scratch my way to a few wins/draws against 1000-1500 Elo Chess Computers

I'll Take What I Can Get Regards
