Hallo Franz,

Yes, you are right.

I don't really care that much about my name being mentioned all around.
I'm grateful for Chest being available to many users, not only to those few that know to handle a shell command line (or DOS prompt).

Cheers, Heiner

Chest is a fabulous tool. I use it on nearly a daily basis.

Ooops, this one is in my database as (unsolved) #37! :shock:
But now I've found the solution too:
5Q2/8/2N1p3/p7/rp2pN2/1p6/p1p5/bbk2K2 w - - bm #10; 01:18 @ C0/R-5/K4/P7/X16;

Thanks for the correction,
Franz.

Dumb question:
Why don't you store the solutions with the problems?

Well, for a few reasons:
1) the database would become much larger then,
2) the solution times are (usually) so short, that the solutions could be recalculated quite quickly,
3) and finally even more people would complain that ChestUCI is cheating, if it would take the complete solution from its database instead of calculating it itself (some have already complained because of using just the special parameters from the database ... :wink: )

Feature request:
If Chest finds the position in the ChestUCI database, then use the settings found in the database for the search (a radio button)

Hmmm? I don't understand, Dann.
ChestUCI is already doing exactly what you request - you just have to use 'SearchMode=Special' (instead of 'Normal'), and of course the option 'UseDatabase' must be checked (but that's default).

I mean to use the exact settings found in the database comment.

Well, that's exactly what I tried to explain to you in my last answer -
ChestUCI is using these settings from the database!

Example - the following line is in the database:
4b1n1/5p2/3B4/2PkN1P1/3Np2P/P3P3/pP3K2/8 w - - bm #11; 00:00 @ C2/R1/K2/P5/X14;

Now if you start ChestUCI with this position in "SearchMode=Special", then it automatically sets all parameters to the given values:
it searches for #11 (even if SearchDepth=10 is adjusted), and it uses C2/R1/K2/P5/X14, of course only if you have switched these options OFF, i.e. their values must be set to 0 (but that are the usual default settings).
BTW, you can even see that ChestUCI uses these values, because it displays the following info messages when started:

FEN: 4b1n1/5p2/3B4/2PkN1P1/3Np2P/P3P3/pP3K2/8 w - - (10+6)
Position-Analysis: C0/R0/K1/P4/X13 W:9/32

Parameters found in Database: #11; 00:00 @ C2/R1/K2/P5/X14;
Search for Special-Mate [C2/R1/K2/P5/X14] in 11 ... (Hash=30MB)

So I don't know what else you would expect.
