Chris,

I did not know that you are cheating with a disguised Tasc R30  .
Can you recommend free MS Virtual PC 2007 ?
Ever tried commercial VMWare 6.x.x ?

Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Well I'll stick with Qb4, it is a decent enough move.

I don't agree at all. There is no guarantee the Tasc will play what your set-up thinks it will. Moves in games are often not able to be re-created in subsequent analysis due to the state of the hash table etc. Not to mention the different hardware you are running. I have the utmost confidence in Steve's integrity, get a grip.

I'm not cheating. I am playing the machine. My version of the machine is software based.

:P

Yes VPC is very nice. I have a Win95 VM and a Win 3.1 VM. I put all the nice old chess software on those likw MChess, CB4, CM etc

An engine is an engine. This engine is the 1993 version of The King.

Yes, also very nice but a bit more complex to set up. VPC and Virtual Server suffice for my needs.

In Windows 7 VPC has been integrated. They have also given away a free XP VM to use in it.

It's pretty cool stuff.

Then I shall check out VPC.
I already know and like VMWare very much.

I vote for Qb4 also.

If R30 moves to Qg6 we are in big trouble.
No way to win this game unless R30 makes a bad move.

Best,

Gerold.

Move 36..

Post by Steve B »

Here are the results for the R30's reply to 35..Qb4

"BEST MOVE" (and time the move found)
Be5(from start)
Qg5(1.1 min)
Bh4(3.56 Min.)
Qh4( 2 hrs.39 min.)
Qg5(4 hrs.4 min. to 5 hrs.31 min.at which point i turned off the computer)
the search depth after 5 hrs.31 min.was 4/11(4ply Brute Search/11 ply selective search)
the R30 scored Bh4 as +1.61,Qh4 as +1.72 and Qg5 as +1.77

normally i would now post the move as 36.Qg5 however i cannot say for certain i would have let the computer run this long if there was not a controversy over this move
its possible i would have turned the computer off after 2,3,4 or even 5 hours
as i mentioned earlier i usually make the move after 4-5 hours

i will leave it to the forum to vote on the move they would like to play against
Bh4,Qh4 or Qg5
if the team wants to play against Bh4 or Qh4 in order to try to stage a comeback that is perfectly OK with me(and perhaps more interesting for the players?)
personally i do not care if the R30 wins, loses or draws.
i enjoy operating the computer and counting up the votes and hopefully the game is providing some interest to members here..
if interest is lost in the game at any time i would have no problem just agreeing to a draw or just abandoning the game as unfinished

my only concern is i do not want to artificially prolong this game .. as i know Ray is patiently waiting to begin the 960 Game v the forum

so i leave it to you guys to decide on the R30's 36th move and to then vote on a reply

Exhausted Regards
Steve
