What Theory says about this Ending?

Post by fern »

One side with 4 pawns and a knight:
the other with two pawns and a knight.
I got a draw after around 100 moves with the weaker side. I wonder If I played perfectly the position on the ground of the existence of at least ONE kind of line where it is possible to get the half point OR the engine blundered heavily.

Quick rule of thumb learned from the bests: Knight endgames are like pawn endgames. 4 vs 2 is a win unless there is a weird pawn structure.

So the engine blundered.....
Espero que agregues a tu engine un modulo de finales anexo, como te sugería. Me convenzo mas y mas que separar modulos es mejor solucion que meterlo todo junto.

Unless it was one of the rare positions where it really is a draw anyway.

Very true....it would be nice Fern to post the position so that we can take a look at it....

There are many theories for different KNPPPP vs KNPP and when you do not give a specific position I cannot give a general rule.

You can see different chess results in the different diagrams.

[d]8/8/8/8/kPK1N3/7n/1P2pppp/8 b - - 0 1
[d]k7/2K5/p7/P2N4/8/7P/5ppp/8 b - - 0 1
[d]k7/p7/pn6/p7/p7/8/PP6/KN6 b - - 0 1
[d]7N/p7/pn6/p7/8/k7/P1P3p1/K7 w - - 0 1
[d]8/ppppkn2/8/8/8/8/P1P1KN2/8 w - - 0 1

No fue un "motor" sino el computador dedicado GM de Excalibur.
Seguro que Amyan me volaba la raja con dos peones a su favor.

It was none of them. In fact it is clear the machine blundered. I got one of his pawns and then his advantage of only one was not enough. Thanks for your post.

I almost never write down my games...
Not enough vanity and/or interest for that....
