Something odd with the apparent pricing of this. At the link given in this post (Chess Central) the price is $59.99 or £36.80 but Excalibur (on Amazon) seem to selling it for a lot less - £19.99 or $32.5 as an equivant:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Excalibur-Fritz ... 765&sr=8-1
I wonder is different in the 2 offerings. Could it be that the more expensive one included the new "Premium Membership" which Playchess and the cheaper one doesn't ?
" Fritz 12 now also gives you Premium Membership to Playchess. Without further costs or obligations you will be able to listen to the audio commentary during major events, you can receive live training, play in simultaneous exhibitions against top GMs, watch the TV ChessBase shows and play in league tournaments."
By the way the Premium Membership is mentioned in yet another advert at

Re: More Details About Fritz 12
Yes the Excalibur versions are always a lot cheaper. They only include 3 mths of playchess sub, not 12 mths from memory. And on the Fritz 11 version I have, the GUI is not updateable. The packaging does not have a serial number, it doesn't ask for one during the install, and if you apply an official chessbase update you are stuffed, because you'll then be asked for a serial number and you don't have one. I believe also that some of the training videos etc are absent, but I can't be sure about that
As to whether any of this applies to Fritz 12 - someone will have to buy it and see
