That might explain why the computers could not solve the diagram? I could not find a 2003 game between Georgiev and Gerber, one in 2004 but it was won by Richard Gerber playing Black after a sac on h7 by Vladimir Georgiev that did not work out, it was a different game, played in Geneve 2004.

I have done searches on Lucern, Luzern, Georgiev and Gerber and I cannot find the game.

Do you have the game score in full somewhere?

In single-pv doesn't find the solution in 18 plies, but in 5-pv mode finds it in only 14 plies. I don't understand this.
I also tried in 3-pv mode untill depth 17 and Nf3xg5 was never one of the three PVs.

rybka 3 found this at the 16th ply in single-pv, but at a quicker ply in multi. im not sure how much quicker since i left the room, but at ply 15 Nxg5 was the clear favorite. im not sure if the overall search was quicker however.

i think the explanation is simply that it forces rybka to extend the variation fully instead of dismissing it too early (as long as it shows up on the pv)

I suppose in open tournaments they often do not collect any gamescores.

There is a website of the tournament but no games in the archives. If you happen to know more it would be nice to see the whole game and we could add it to the databases. With the pawn on f7 at least the combination is totally correct it seems, without it it would not have worked?

Still buggy Ancalagon does not see the first move quickly maybe interesting is that it declines the offer of the Knight after a (long) while if I enter the first move of the combination:

I hope I can find some of the bugs, but the only way I know how to go about finding this one is by trying different combinations of past sources, I just could go back to an old version that more or less works but that is not what I want!
