Ne5 is BigLion's response
(Ne3 was a ponder hit but BL still thought for 39 mins about the response)

I'm looking at Bxe5 possibly followed by Bg4.

I was thinking about f4. However since you suggested Bxe5Graham Banks wrote:I'm looking at Bxe5 possibly followed by Bg4.
if it was followed by Bg4 looks to be a very strong position.
Waiting to see what others think of this brilliant move.
In a holding patten.
Gerold.

the brilliancy prize might have to wait a bit if black plays e6 after our Bg4gerold wrote:I was thinking about f4. However since you suggested Bxe5Graham Banks wrote:I'm looking at Bxe5 possibly followed by Bg4.

we then lose the chance to play the f4 pawn break because of the black pawn now on e5..we then would wind up focusing back to the queenside with a5 which we sort of decided against doing several moves ago with Nd2..e4..Ne3
probably best to get in f4 now with Tempo while we still can...
20.f4 Regards

IMO f4 loses material, say after f4 Ng6 e5 Nf7
[d] 1qbr1rk1/p1b1pnpp/1p3pn1/2pPP3/P1P2P2/2B1N2P/3NB1P1/Q1R2RK1 w - - 0 3
If we don't play e5 we cannot hold the f4 pawn after an eventual retreat of the knight.
Meanwhile after Bxe5; fe Black gets a horrible bishop on c7.

We can exchange the white bishops with Bg4 and have a permanent advantage of a knight which is alive vs. bishop which is dead. Then we will create a second weakness on the q-side and cash in.
Or, we can proceed with a5, (without Bg4), bring the rooks into Q-side and that should be close to winning.
So I vote for Bxe5
