if moving a knight to e5 is a comfirmed bad move, capturing it suddenly becomes one of the best options to scrutinize
You should have waited till the forum finishes voting.

Cheers,
Matthias.
OK, I won't do it again
Maybe it is not a bad move after all, I used just one engine to briefly take a look after Christopher's comment, other engines may see things differently - although I'm not going to find out - it takes the mystery and intrigue away for me
It was Graham who suggested the move, I just looked and thought about it.

See the position after it takes back, which it must.

Double pawns, weak kingside, add to that the fact that a5 is now super (or even Bg4) and I'm sold on it.

Seems the a5-playing and the f4-playing camps completely switched :) :)

It all depends on BL moves. I was for a5 early. The middle and
King side has to come first.
a5 may be a good move if there is a need to pause on the
King side for a move or two.

Best.

Gerold.

OK, I'll take the forum move as Bxe5

No ponder hit this time.

BL has many good moves now.
After looking at this for awhile white is very weak on the King side.
Trading the black B looks like a weak move now. The double
pawn that BL has makes black position stronger in the middle
and on the King side. The black rook controls f file. Most of
Bl pieces are in good position. White will be fighting to get
a draw from this game unless BL makes a bad move.

Best. Thanks for doing a good job.

Gerold.

Thanks, it's a pleasure. I'm really enjoying it.
Poor old Steve has the hard job actually, continually updating the position and moves on the first page of the thread.
