Problem with ChessGUI

Post by Matthias Gemuh »

A user new to ChessGUI is having problems with gauntlets from pgn start positions: only first 2 positions get played, then tournament is prematurely ended. Pgn files are Noomen/Nunn.

I cannot reproduce the problem here, not even with first 3 pgn positions he pm'ed me.

Who else is having such problems ?
Who can run complete Noomen/Nunn from pgn file at TC "game/20sec" ?

BTW, when using pgn start positions in ChessGUI, set number of game cycles to number of positions to be played.

Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

... please use at least 4 or 5 fairly strong engines for the tournament.

I use pgns containing 50 start positions for chess960 testing, with 2 engine gauntlets, reversed colours, and it works perfectly (100 games). I've never tried it with standard chess or with more than 2 engines. Easy enough to do, I'll take a look tonight

Thanks for the feedback, Ray.

To everyone:
ChessGUI is VERY unstable in the interval between games, so at TC game/20sec you should not go clicking around.
Pausing current game may be recommended in such a case.
I shall some day solve this major weakness, I hope

I had the same problem about a half year ago. I pllayed a gaunlent between 2 versions of DanaSah, with the opening book the tournament was played right, but with start positions only the first 2 games. I think I told you this problem.

Hi Pedro,

The ChessGUI newbie is using ChessGUI 0.167.
It would be great to know whether you still have that problem with ChessGUI 0.167.
I don't remember having tried to fix such a bug.

I indeed advise everyone to keep a working previous version before updating to latest version because I can seriously mess things up with each release.
However, I cannot imagine going back to use ChessGUI 0.149 :) .

I'm sorry to tell you that this happens here as well, with the 0.167 GUI and Noomen suite.

Oh :( .
Would be nice to know whether it happens with RoundRobin and 2 or 3 engines, standard chess.
Would also be nice to know whether it happens with Gauntlets, 2 or 3 engines, Chess960, ChessGUI 0.167.

about to start debugging,
Matthias.
