In the last months we see the Stockfish development only and nothing new from Tord and his engine.
Does it mean that Glaurung is a dead project now like Viper or Gothmog?
Any clarifications are welcome.

Glaurung is a dead project and I remember that Tord explained that he is going to work only on stockfish and not on glaurung.perejaslav wrote:I wonder what is the future of Glaurung?

That's correct....Uri Blass wrote:Glaurung is a dead project and I remember that Tord explained that he is going to work only on stockfish and not on glaurung.perejaslav wrote:I wonder what is the future of Glaurung?

As far as I understood, Stockfish is a branch of Glaurung which has now become the main branch, only under a different name. So the "Glaurung project" is not dead but continues under the name Stockfish where Tord is one of several developers. This is the major difference to Gothmog and Viper which were completely separate engines with own code bases but are no longer continued as it seems.perejaslav wrote:I wonder what is the future of Glaurung?

I understood the facts but maybe I used wrong words.Sven Schüle wrote:As far as I understood, Stockfish is a branch of Glaurung which has now become the main branch, only under a different name. I know that you know it and nearly everybody knows it but I was not sure whether Slavik knew it, too.Uri Blass wrote:[...] and I assume everybody knows that stockfish is based on glaurung.
This is 100% correct. There is no point in working alone when working together is more fun, and because Stockfish was the more advanced branch at the time we started working together, that's the branch we are working on.Sven Schüle wrote:As far as I understood, Stockfish is a branch of Glaurung which has now become the main branch, only under a different name. Glaurung will still live on as the name of my iPhone program, even though the chess engine in my development version has been Stockfish for several months. This is because the awful amount of red tape on the iPhone App store makes something as simple as renaming an application unbearably painful. Perhaps I'll do the same with my Mac OS X GUI when I finally get around to giving it a major overhaul and releasing a new version: Glaurung will be the name of a UCI compatible GUI, bundled with Stockfish as a pre-installed chess engine.
I am not working on Stockfish at the moment, because I have been too busy in other parts of life recently. All changes between Stockfish 1.5.1 and Stockfish 1.6 are entirely the work of Joona and Marco. However, I do expect to contribute to future versions.gerold wrote:Are you working on Stockfish or is other folks working on it
alone. Thanks for any reply.
Without you in the team for this release cycle we deliberately choose not to name the release 2.0, as possibly we should have done due to big ELO jump, but we went for a "smaller" 1.6. We want to reserve the 2.0 to a release with Tord in.Tord Romstad wrote:I am not working on Stockfish at the moment, because I have been too busy in other parts of life recently.
