Yes, Graham. Just after 12. move in Areana book, it crashes.
I saw the same behaviour in Francesca. Unfortunately, I could not
include them in my future thematicals.

I contacted the Porucznik author a little while back to ask if he could allow the opening book to be disabled in his next release. He replied with one word - "yes".

that difficult. Lets wait for it. On the other hand, I also need
few points increase in new versions.

Francesca is playing in my tournament (KCEC) without its opening book. I don't remember now how I disabled its book, I can check and post if you are interested.

I think I remember now. The main issue with Francesca is that it is does not support setting a position, so it can't use external book. So the trick is to use it without external book too, so that it thinks by itself from move 1.

Disabling its own book is easy: Just delete the book files ("franbook.b.0", "franbook.b.1", "franbook.w.0" and "franbook.w.1"). Disable its learning by clearing the "learn.b" and "learn.w" files (making them 0 bytes), and then making them read only.

After that it plays just fine without any book or learning.

The main issue with Francesca is that it is does not support setting a position, so it can't use external book. So the trick is to use it without external book too, so that it thinks by itself from move 1.
