If you only want to check a certain position, you can go on shredder's website as they have a live EGTB analyzer. You just setup the position and it will immediately give you the output. Saves having to put all the 6 pieces on your hard disk (1.2 TB)

I thought I should mention this: Tablebase Check Utility: tbcheck:
There is a small file that checks whether one or some of tablebase
files is/are corrupt. I'll try to provide a download link as soon as
I find one.

I purchased the 5-man tablebases from CB for my engines many years ago. I knew then that the CDs didn't include every 5-man ending because some are so rare and because the engines solved the others.

But in my correspondence chess games, I discovered some obviously erroneous Rybka 3 output in B+P vs. P endings. In positions with the wrong colored Bishop, Rybka claims wins. Stockfish has enough endgame knowledge to know when the position is drawn and when it's not. And it's correct output is confirmed by 6-man websites.

Yes, I've read that Rybka 3 has a known "wrong B" endgame problem but I assumed that this was minimized in its Monte Carlo mode because games are played to mate.

However, I saw examples of Rybka 3 Monte Carlo analysis where resignations occurred in drawn positions! These Monte Carlo games are thus not played out to mate. Naturally, this means my Rybka 3's output and its Monte Carlo output are bogus.

So, I need to download the B+P vs. P tablebases from somewhere to fix this. Do you have any recommendations?

All the best,
Steve
Hi Steve, you most probably also need _all_ derived promoted tablebases
from that endgame, because it is possible that much more is missing
from the TBS set you bought.

So you need to check for:
B+X vs. X when X could be any piece(except K of course).

If you just have to ocasionally crosscheck some positions, you should
consider Ansaris hint in another post and live check the results(if there
is internet where you wanna check them)

Best,
Readme:
Readme for Md5Checker.exe
-------------------------

Md5Checker is a small utility for verification
of the Nalimov endgame tables.

Place the Md5Checker.exe and the corresponding *.md5 file(s)
in the same folder as the endgame tables you want to verify.
Run the exe and press the "verify" button in the dialog that appears.

If a file is corrupt you need to replace it.

Vielen dank, Guenther.

I had the exact same thought myself when going to bed last night. Today, if I find the time, I'll read through the CB 5-man endgame turbo list and see what's missing. I'll then download any/all missing files that seem meaningful.

Presently, I do indeed already check live and expected positions online at 6-man endgame sites.

Auf wiederschreiben :) Yes, I know that's not a real expression. ;)
