Censorship Ahead: The mod team election is before us. I have enjoyed this place for years and recently decided to become a member. A lot is happening in computer chess lately--many see these
events as progress and while some bemoans the death of chess. We have a few individuals here who crave authority over others and would like to institute censorship. The CCC charter is
not written in language difficult to undestand, but for all including the least educated.
Since the past few months, one chess forum that is going down the tubes is Rybka community because a few individuals decided to ignore the demands of those who make the community. Contrary
opinions are censored causing the mass exodus from Rybka forum, and I myself have ceased participation in discussions there. It has gotten so bad that this link, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rybka was
removed/censored from one of my postings. How ridiculous?!
So, It seems a few members here want CCC to follow the paths of Rybka forum especially when you have people refusing to apply common sense to common principles. We have a situation where it
happens anyone can lay accusations without offering a grain of evidence, and a mere claim is treated as proof. What planet are these people from?! We are not even dealing with a situation where formal or
informal accusation has been made, but rather hinted, and yet this is sufficient to restrict and
punish?
And it brings me to the point. I refuse to partake in a community that restricts knowledge and free-thinking. I believe in order, however, censorship
hinders progess. I do not believe for one second the majority of people here tolerate piracy of any sort. It occurs to me that there is misunderstanding of the current situation. Those of us on the other side in
essence are simply defending a universally accepted principle; that is, the accused is innocent until proven guilty. This should not be confused with defending illegal behavior.
Accept it or not, you would not want to be accused and condemned without evidence. When one renders judgment without evidencce, everyone is in
danger. Once the authoritarians are in power and proceed to institute censorship, I will formally request that all my postings be deleted as well as my account.

Re: Censorship Ahead
I only read one candidate interested in censoring discussion. The rest seemed interested in adhering to the charter which, like it or not, is rather vague and therefore open to a wide range of interpretation.
That's why I want examples before making up my mind.

Re: Censorship Ahead
A moderated forum is by nature a censured forum.
Limiting what can be posted is one way to attempt to attain a forum which is civil according to the liking of its audience.
Why not select those with a position you approve of?

As I said, I believe in order especially in cases where a few would go out of their way to defy reason. That said, we have certain figures who would like to impress a personal view upon the masses. One particular candidate on the ballot is notoriously unprofessional and obnoxious. He is a mod on another site and as you see, he craves dictating to others. If you read the postings earlier today, he displayed this nonsensical attitude towards another member here who has contributed more to computer chess than he ever could in a life time. Though I think his chances of getting in are slim, but if he were to get in, immediately after the results are out, I would ask the following command be used on all my postings and account:
shred -n 1024 -s 1048576 -u
shred -n 1024 -s 1048576 -u

Re: Censorship Ahead
One thing is certain:
I shall not participate in a heavily censored forum.
I would quit for as long as the deleter(s) is/are in power.
Matthias.

My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Hallo.
I too don't like the deleters.
And I don't like those, who modify others posts.
People have not changed.
In the old days they had their GOD (Richard Lang).
Now they have their GOD (Vas Railich).
Chess fora were ugly places and computer chess fora were uglier.
That has not changed very much.
Those who can think will not be available for moderation, so we have to live with the others.
You may choose whom you like, I will do what seams to be appropriate for me.
Kind regards
Bernhard

Re: Censorship Ahead
Well, some people - and more now than in the recent past - seeks something like anarchy. Some has gotten quite annoyed by that, and the continuous trolling and personal warfares conducted by a few.
It's only natural, that among the nominees you'll find some that feels the same way.
Maybe the moderation in the Rybka forum seems harch some times, but with the kind of posts/treads that appears, it's a queston of which evil choose, without harming the freedom of speech.
Personally, I'd like to see a firmer grip on things here too - as I used to enjoy come here reading - with all due respect to the sitting mods.

Re: Censorship Ahead
This moderation election allows us to select the moderation team we want - the members standing are clearly stating their views on the whole clone issue.
I hope for a certain outcome but for better or worse believe in the majority view, so lets vote and support the majority view!

Re: Censorship Ahead

Henrik Dinesen
you're right.
seems rybka forum has censored everything about clowns, ooops clones.
so maybe, those who like censorship join rybka and those who like reasonable "freedom of speech & expression" stay here.
but wait
if CCC/CTF copies rybka's style of censorship, then this forum can be called

the CCC mods can also moderate there in the rybka forum
and their mods can also mod here in CCC.
after all they are one and the same.
sounds good?
