the problem is that v9, last i knew anyway, has problems at long TC or with long analysis. this needs to be addressed, particularly if it is stronger than the rock solid v5fix. in the one game i attempted to use v9 it hung in a position it thought was winning; i believe v5fix drew the game if i repeated it instead of discarding it.

it's possible that was actually version 8 (i realize the misnaming is confusing) but im pretty sure i read comments saying that problem remains in v9. i would very much like to do a mid-range TC test b/w firebird & igorrit. FB defeated it narrowly in my 1+1 testing last night, but that was 32 bit.

I have not found any of these problems in my tests.

Another very strong player in place: FireBird1.0!!.

Quad i7 975 3,33 Mz. 12 Gz RAM
10 minutes per game.
Ponder: off.
w64 Fritz 11 Gui.
All engines with 8 threads.

FireBird 1.0 beta x64 (x8) - Igorrit 0.086v8_x64 4.5 - 5.5 +0/-1/=9 45.00%
FireBird 1.0 beta x64 (x8) - Rybka 3 (x8) 6.0 - 4.0 +2/-0/=8 60.00%
FireBird 1.0 beta x64 (x8) - IvanHoe v81a x64 (x8) 5.5 - 4.5 +2/-1/=7 55.00%

Games:

Another excellent result for FireBird 1.0.

Perhaps the good news for people developing the program are that the 'scalating process' has been very successful. The speed of F1.0 in this computer (using w64 and 8 threads) is about three times higher than in my other (slower!) quad (using w32 and 4 cores), This proportion is one of the highest I have seen til now. About 10.500 vs. 3.500 kns per second. Well done!!. :D

Regards!.

tom--

have you run any tests or positions that would require the engine to think for more than 10 minutes? this seemed to be the problem as reported. i'm not sure exactly where it hung for me as i was afk.

also, could you do a long-ish head to head of firebird MP vs igorrit MP, ponder off etc, at something like 10 min (perhaps with increment)? i'd be very interested in the results & if you notice any substantially different b/w the two engines.

I'm curious as to know whether the multipv support has been implemented yet. Looks like Firebird is getting stronger results.

Has anyone run a match between Robbolito 0.09 and Firebird yet?

Other question though is which engine has best time management enough to work in bullet tournament without a single time loss?

I'm running a 10 min, 10 round robin tournament (total of 100 games) with Firebird, Igorrit v9, Rybka 3, Robbolito 0.09 and Ivanhoe v0.81 on my X2 AMD 4200 system. 45 Games played so far. Should be completed by tomorrow. All engines are MP except Robbo. Results as of game 45 is below.

1: FireBird 1.0 beta w32 10,5/18 ····· ===== =1== =1=1 1===0 90,50
2: RobboLito_009_w32 9,5/19 ===== ····· 0=011 ===0= 1=01 84,50
3: Rybka 3 w32 9,5/18 =0== 1=100 ····· 1=10= =110 82,50
4: Igorrit_0086v9_w32 8,5/18 =0=0 ===1= 0=01= ····· =1== 75,50
5: IvanHoe_v81_w32 7,0/17 0===1 0=10 =001 =0== ····· 67,50

This confirms my suspicion that Ivanhoe is somehow slow/bugged on w32 version. Will test w64 versions of these engines with the same setup next.

Hi, John.

I will be two days out of home, but I have programmed a test in my faster computer between IgorV9, FireBird 1.0 and R3, at a longer time control: 40 moves - 20 minutes + 40 moves 20 minutes + 10 minutes finish. Ponder off, Fritz 11 Gui, HS book. Igor and Fire works around 10.500 kns per second.

I hope I will post the results and games on Monday night.

Regards,

Tom.

Well done, Taner.

Can I know the book you are using?. At the end of your test, IMHO, Igor should lead the tournament. Perhaps with a narrow margin over FireBird. In 64w environment its advantage uses to be higher.

not at all convinced this is true, at least the 32 bit version of firebird actually scored +30 elo in 100 hyperbullet games. as you say 64 bit could be a different story, but the 64 bit firebird hadn't quite been released at that point.

as far as i can tell so far firebird is incredibly strong and i would not be surprised if it's as strong as igorritv9 (or slightly stronger).

So far FB is the strongest of the MP clones on 8 core system. It does get a crash in one out of 50 games, and am not sure why. That is a PIA because you need to be on the computer when that happens to continue the tourney. The difference between RL g3 single core and FB 8 core is about 100 to 120 ELO, so that is quite a lot. FB is still about 50 ELO weaker than R3 8 core 0 contempt, although this could change in the tourney (so far 80 out of 200 games).

Sorry I forgot to mention the book. It's Scanbaz perfect v071. As you guessed as of game 90/100 Igorrit leads with small margin. Big surprise for me is Robbo 0.09 which I think is still the best engine out there.

Engine Score Ig Ro Fi Ry Iv S-B
1: Igorrit_0086v9_w32 20,5/36 ········· ===1==1== =0=011==1 0=01=1==1 =1======= 357,00
