interesting idea -- can 'winfinder' play chess? i'm sure i have it somewhere on my HD but i've never really thought to use it (i only got 2.3.2 after i got r3). i know it gets some impressive results on some of the test positions here.

Yes, it's a normal engine on the outside.yanquis1972 wrote:can 'winfinder' play chess?

BlueWin was intended as a Winfinder notion.David Dahlem wrote:Isn't there a Toga Winfinder? Talk about a dream match, Rybka Winfinder vs Toga Winfinder!!![]()

The program reports:
"Toga II Blueberry Winfinder based on Fruit 2.1 by Thomas Gaksch and Fabien Letouzey. Settings by Eelco de Groot"
I can't find the link for it any more.

Unfortunately Winfinder is not too stable, at least not on 8 cores. I did manage many matches without any problems. But if you are looking for an aggressive engine which will look for sacrifices and play very speculatively, then I would recommend something like Rybka 3 Dynamic with contempt 30. It will lose many games but you will also get some gems. The games it loses it goes down firing on all cylinders.

I can't find a download for Toga Winfinder either. I did find some settings i had saved, from a post on some forum or other. I think it's by Denis Mendoza and includes Toga Winfinder settings, but i'm not sure which version of Toga. Below is what i found -Dann Corbit wrote:BlueWin was intended as a Winfinder notion.David Dahlem wrote:Isn't there a Toga Winfinder? Talk about a dream match, Rybka Winfinder vs Toga Winfinder!!![]()

Just compiled a custom Toga Blueberry, settings by Eelco de Groot . What's in a name though? Maybe he just likes the flavor of the "Fruit" engine. Cheers to all Toga lovers. It may be a clone to others, but it's still a well-improved version of its source thanks to Thomas Gaksch. The settings are still experimental. Here are the default settings,. The rest of the Blueberries as well are all yours.
Toga Blueberry Winfinder Settings:
Hash = 64
Search Time = 0 [Default]
Search Depth = 0 [Default]
BookFile = performance.bin [Not used, Nunn-type openings]
NullMove Pruning = Always [Default]
NullMove Reduction = 3 [Default]
Verification Search = Always [Default]
Verification Reduction = 4 [Default = 5]
History Pruning = true [Default]
History Threshold = 90 [Default 70]
Futility Pruning = true [Default]
Futility Margin = 125 [Default = 100]
Extended Futility Margin = 325 [Default = 300]
Delta Pruning = true [Default]
Delta margin = 40 [Default = 50, not sure about effect]
Quiescence Check Plies = 1 [Default]
Material = 95 [Default = 100]
Piece Activity = 102 [Default = 100]
King Safety = 125 [Default = 100]
Pawn Structure = 106 [Default = 100]
Passed Pawns = 106 [Default = 100]
Toga Lazy Eval = true [Default]
Toga Lazy Eval Margin = 250 [Default = 200]
Toga King Safety = false [Default]
Toga King Safety margin = 3000[Default = 1700, not entirely sure if it has no effect without first switch]
Toga Extended History Pruning = true [Default = false, overall accuracy uncertain]
The settings for the rest are very similar to Blueberry 0.96, the only differences are in Futility Pruning, Blueberry 0.96 has
Futility Margin = 110 [Default = 100]
Extended Futility Margin = 330 [Default = 300]

Hi Ansari, I wonder if u could share this games?? (Rybka 3 with this agressive setting) how many elo´s do u think that Rybka 3 losses with this setting?M ANSARI wrote:Unfortunately Winfinder is not too stable, at least not on 8 cores. Re: Junior 2010 vs RybkaWinFinder the dream test
I am out of the country and don't have access to any of my games, but I would guess that Rybka 3 Dynamic at contempt 30 is about 50 ELO points weaker than R3 default.
