If the top 100 rated GMs were asked which program do you use to assist you in home preparation---which program would be named most often.

I'm sure it would be Rybka.

It's gotten quite a name in those circles.

Nr. 2 is probably Fritz. Either the GM cares and they use the strongest (Rybka), or they don't care, and they buy what marketing suggests (Fritz).

I personaly think that Fritz is the more reliable answer....

Wow, does that suggest that you hate Vas more than ChessBase?!

:D

I'm sure Rybka is the most common answer, with Shredder being next because its style mixes with Rybka's style quite well.

I would be enormously surprised if it were true. GM's know much less about computer chess than most of the readers of this forum. Let alone they know about such things.

I agree. I know 4 IMs and they have always stated engines are valid for them only to check position for tactical mistakes, but they help very little to how strong humans play chess. My IM teacher always say engines never plays like strong humans do, so it helps little to them.

I'm curious if Rybka's "special" handling" of nps and plies would discourage High Level Players from using the engine, as it would appear weaker. When I first purchased Rybka, I thought Fritz11 was much stronger, as I watched the NPS and Plies output for each engine. I had many engine matches between the engine and read the boards. The results and posts provved to me that Rybka is better, but suspect and wonder if the low output has hurt sales.
