Problem with the position

Post by metax »

I think the problem is the evaluation. The engines think that White has enough compensation for the pawn (which he probably has).

Code: Select all

FEN: r1bqkb1r/pp3ppp/2p2n2/2p1N3/4P3/2N5/PPPP1PPP/R1BQK2R b KQkq - 0 6

ChessMind:
  7/19	00:00 59.810	127.000	+0,08	Lf8d6 Se5f3 OO OO Lc8g4 d2d3 Lg4xf3
  8/23	00:01 178.665	165.000	+0,18	Lf8d6 d2d4 Ld6c7 Se5f3 c5xd4 Dd1xd4 OO Dd4xd8
  8/24	00:01 321.963	187.000	+0,16	Sf6xe4 Sc3xe4 Dd8d5 OO Dd5xe4 Dd1e1 De4xe1 Tf1xe1 Lf8d6
  9/25	00:02 510.193	200.000	+0,13	Sf6xe4 Sc3xe4 Dd8d5 Dd1e2 Dd5xe5 f2f4 De5e6 f4f5 De6e5
 10/25	00:08 1.895.491	218.000	+0,02	Sf6xe4 Dd1e2 Se4xc3 d2xc3 Lc8e6 OO Dd8f6 Tf1d1 Ta8d8 Td1xd8+ Df6xd8
ChessMind takes the pawn but evaluates the position as balanced. You can see how narrow the difference between Bd6 and Nxe4 is (at least at depth 8): by 0.02 pawns it chooses Nxe4.

Junior 5......finds it in 2 seconds

Ruffian 1.0.5....takes 25 seconds

Junior 10 does not find it.

Thanks...

Good test move..

do you mean black not white?

not taking the pawn is lost chess game for black.

i think some engines needs more calculating time for this very tactical position, but look at alaric 707, it plays immediately Nxe4. why? after 0 till1 second time.

i found this position as i played some engines tests with robbolitoo without opening book, or the position: 1.e4 c5.
