Re: pgn annotations?
Ok, i have another question regarding these NAGS. In Chessbase databases, some of these symbols appear with a strange look. At http://www.angelfire.com/games5/chessod ... tation.htm i found this list -
÷ the position is unclear
or any of the other strange looking symbols, is it possible to make these symbols with the keyboard?
Thanks
Dave
Code: Select all
! an excellent move
!! brilliant move
? a bad move
?? a blunder
!? an interesting move, probably good
?! an interesting move, probably bad
ª with (a specific move in an opening variation)
º without (a specific move in an opening variation)
¬ ending
® bishops of opposite colors
¯ bishops of the same color
- the bishop pair
« queenside
» kingside
+- White has a decisive advantage
± White is clearly better
² White is slightly better
= The chances are equal
³ Black is slightly better
µ Black is clearly better
© with compensation (for the material)
÷ the position is unclear
‘ rank or file
’ diagonal
‚ with an attack
é with the initiative
“ time trouble
” center
„ with counterplay
† space
‡ zugzwang
… with the idea
aimed against (a specific move)
‰ development advantage
™ the only reasonable move
¹ better is
‹ worse is
› stronger is
1-0 White won
0-1 Black won
1/2-1/2 drawn game
So, for example, if i wanted to search for this symbol in a CB database:
or any of the other strange looking symbols, is it possible to make these symbols with the keyboard?
Thanks
Dave

Re: pgn annotations?
If you are using Windows, there is the character map app under programs/accessories/system tools which will show you the available characters in any font you have installed. Another way to enter these on Windows is to use the ALT key + the numeric pad, e.g. ÷ is ALT+0247.
There should be a table of these values somewhere.

Yes, the ALT key + the numeric keypad is what i have in mind. I still have not found a table for these values yet.jwes wrote:If you are using Windows, there is the character map app under programs/accessories/system tools which will show you the available characters in any font you have installed.
