And i know of 2 other owners which had the same problem...
nearly 30 years later, Novag still seems to have robot-problems!

Hi Robert
since we are talking about defects..
my active graphic display module for the Res I is now defective
the display sceen is always blank and will not work with either the Res I or Res II Program modules
the Res I program module works as i can play a game but there is no display
my Res II display module does not work with the Res I but of course works fine with the Res II module
have you heard of similar probelms with the Res I display modules?
Squinting Regards
Steve
Hi Steve,
Have you asked Ruud about the problem? If so what did he say? I have two green lcd displays from Arno that both have failed. Apparently from what I read it is because they should be used at 5V which of course does not happen with the Mephisto boards therefore apparently they burn out. If Ruud has used the same Arno displays then of course it is a concern since all the Res 1 displays might fail at some point.
best regards
Nick
Hi Nick
yes i sent an email to Ruud yesterday but have not heard back yet
i also use the 9 Volt outlet on the side of the Mephisto boards and not the 5v adaptor module for the Res I
IMHO..the adaptor module was not well designed.. ..it was hard to install in the boards and after only a few weeks from when i received it ..the component to attach the adaptor plug broke off..
hopefully i can get a replacement display module other wise the Res module is basically useless to me
its a bit annoying because i have Mephisto 8/16/32 bit display modules for 20+ years and they are still working perfectly
and here already i have a Res display module defective after only 4-5 years
somewhat Annoyed Regards
Steve

Well, keep us posted Steve with what you hear and sorry about your problem.
So I'm just wondering if what I speculated on before is that Novag has stopped production due to these software/hardware problems. Nobody in the USA has a 2Robot in stock.
Now the burning question is: When these machines are back in stock, will they have fixed these issues?

Thankfully Nick .. i have heard back from Ruud who will be sending me a replacement display module
hopefully i will receive it in time for the Paris 2010 tournament where i am planning on operating the Res I-Ruffian and winning the event 5-0 in a "walk-away"
Clean Sweep Regards

I would love to have a working one!
John
Interestingly John
i have one 2Robot which does not power on and another that is working perfectly
so it does seem that there are operational issues with these remade armed marauder's of yesteryear
its always a good idea to wait a few months before buying a new product like these robotic remakes
having no patience ..and not following my own advice
i rushed in ..bought one when it was first released and wound up having to buy two
the second one seems to be a bit more stable...
but i guess..

Steve
Are these machines repairable? What kind of warranties do they have?
John
The Warranty is 1 year...or at least i think it is
i have 3 warranty cards ..in several languages ..EXCEPT English
anyway ..it would cost something like $50-$60 Bucks for round-trip shipping to repair the Robot ..not to mention the time waiting for it to be fixed..so at under $200 a pop.. i just bought another one
Hi Steve,
So where did you get it? And how much did it cost? I searched and searched all internet chess sites in the USA and no one has one in stock!
As always,
John
i bought them when they were first released for sale..back in Dec.08..over a year ago
the defective one came from a Company in California..The Chess House
the working one came from the Sponsor of these forums
ICD..Your Move..which happens to be about a 15 minute drive from my house
they both cost about $225 at the time
but in the past year i recall seeing them for less
i know Novag(the Co. that makes them) has been sold to another Co. and perhaps they have discountinued the 2Robot?
hmmm..
Perhaps my defective 2Robot might now be worth something as a collectors item?
for all i know the repair could be a very simple thing
