SWCR, first posting ...

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

my first posting in this part of TalkChess ...

SWCR means:
SCHACHWELT Computer Ratings

Since October 2009 I played on a 32-Bit rating list of TOP-20 chess engines.

Only 32-Bit
Only 1 Core
Each one vs. each one 40 games
Used three machines: E4600 400MHz overclocked, E8400, Q9950

Shredder Classic 4 GUI
(17 programs are still running in 4 tournaments)

Fritz 12 GUI
(2 programs are still running, Fritz 12, Junior 2010).
With Junior 2010 I have not so many problems under the Fritz 12 GUI.

So far 19 engines are included, the reason is ... I wait of Rahman's Ktulu 9 Update. Ktulu 9.0 crashes sometimes in endgames with bishops. So Ktulu isn't in my list ... will be engine 20 soon (hope so).

Rules:
In the main rating list no double programs / versions are included. With 19 engines = 6.840 games so far.

I have two ratingslist.

1. The main rating list with 6.840 games
2. The rating list with all 13.100 games

So each month is a new version of SWCR available and public on the German chess magazine SCHACHWELT by GM Jörg Hickl.

Latest issue is 03-2010:
http://www.schach-welt.de/index.php?opt ... Itemid=137

Issue 02-2010:
http://www.schach-welt.de/index.php?opt ... Itemid=115

Issue 01-2010
http://www.schach-welt.de/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=98

Actual testing engnes can be found in the still working rating list (actual ratings). So far I added Critter 0.52b and Twisted Logic 20100131x, replaced Glaurung 2.2 (double, Stockfish 1.6.3 in the list) and Cyclone xTreme Wrath (no longer interest to play with clones).

Actual rating list:
http://www.schach-welt.de/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=90

I am working on different things:
News-Ticker, book rezensions, interviews, software-reviews (all in German, much interviews are in English).

I wrote a software review about playing styles from the TOP-20:

Playing style description:
http://www.nk-qy.info/bericht-swcr-engines.htm

Furthermore I am playing on one AMD system on a blitz-ratinglist. This one is not very important. I checked here only different version for my main tourney:

Blitz-Ratinglist:
http://www.nk-qy.info/swcr-blitz.txt

The ratinglist with all played games in SWCR (13.100) can be found from time to time in SCHACHWELT News-Ticker.

SCHACHWELT News-Ticker:
http://www.schach-welt.de/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=79

Actual is News 080, so I produce 80 News in 2 months to different topics.

Have fun with it ...

If you have interest on the comming updates you can click in the actual rating list:

on Updates

Hi there,

in January GM Hickl and myself made an interview with GM Meyer. GM Georg Meyer is at the moment with around 2.675 ELO the number two in Germany. So I asked for the playing strength of Rybka 3. GM Meyer used Rybka 3 under ChessBase 10.

Interesting to know that GM Meyer has the opinion that Rybka with 2 Cores and 32Bit is playing around with 2.900 ELO. I have the identical result in my Computer - GM database.

Rybka 3 with 1 Core has 2.850 in SWCR. 50 ELO more with 2 Cores, 90 ELO more with 4 Cores.

So I discuss in Janaury in CSS Forum with Ingo Bauer to set Shredder 12 on 2.800 ELO for the ELO calculation. This is more accurat as to high ELOs for engines.

In the SWCR can be see in table information about 64-Bit. On two other systems I calculate the x64 comparsion. For a chess magazine is better to public a list with 32-Bit because most of the club players have 32-Bit only. Important is the x64 comparsion I calculate with own results and ratings by others.

Each one can calculate how strong is the engine with 1, 2, 4 Cores, 32-Bit or 64-Bit. It's allways the same +-10 ELO and its not necessary to play thousends of games with x64 and different cores.

Furthermore SWCR is playing with 40 moves in 10 minutes up to mate. More interesting for statistics if the games ended with mate.

I think to have the main rating with 32-Bit is much more interesting for a chess magazine. After a short time the list is very populare, we have a lot of game downloads and visits after a short time.

But all is in German and perhaps not interesting for TalkChess.

Hi Paul,

Critter 0.52b
yes, have a look in the posting before.
With game in 5 the rating is a little bit over 2.640.
With 40 moves in 10 minutes the rating is a little bit over 2.600.

But Critter 0.52b seems to be problems with lost on time games. The games should be checked.

Same situations for:
Hiarcs 12.1, Rybka 3 and Onno 1.1.1.
This engines are stronger in blitz games.

Other situation:
Spark is stronger with longer time controls.

The others I tested played +-20 blitz to longer time controls.

Thx for posting, interesting set up.
May I ask why you haven't put in Robbolito 009 or g3? Under your playing conditions it would be shurely the number one.

Critter_0.52b_32bit - Critter_0.52_32bit : 5,0/10 1-1-8 (==0=1=====) 50% ±0

why you can not download the last version of critter from critters homepage?

Because it is now closed source, it cannot be hosted on sourceforge server.
Older versions (up to 0.42) are still available of course.
