Is it just me, or does Topalov seem like a real, umm, a-hole? Ever since the shenanigans during his world-championship match against Kramnik in 2006, he has left a bad taste. And his treatment of Anand in this match seems pretty poor.
Yeah, yeah, I know that some of this is psychological warfare, but whatever happened to sportsmanship and professionalism?
Seriously, does anyone like this guy? Or am I way off base here?

It's not just you, Topalov is an a-hole and hopefully Anand will put him in his place...2nd as a chessplayer and 3rd rate as a person. Well Topalov has done that to himself.lmader wrote:Is it just me, or does Topalov seem like a real, umm, a-hole? I only started considering Topalov a strong player when I saw that he can play at a high level even when Danilov is not around with a cell phone.

Actually Topalov is a very nice guy, and Anand even more so. Danilov and some other characters on the Topalov team are not so nice. I think most of the negative stuff is not due to Topalov himself, but rather due to others on his team. A similar situation used to happen with Gata Kamsky. Although Gata was a really nice guy, his father who was managing him was a different story ... this caused a lot of negativity towards G Kamsky.

Topalov seems pretty willing to go along with Danilov, in fact so much so they had to put up plate glass to separate Topalov from Kramnik.M ANSARI wrote:Actually Topalov is a very nice guy, and Anand even more so. I've read articles and Topalov comes across as vindictive, arrogant and even hostile.

Yeah, nobody likes Topa. Though actually I think Topalov himself is only... slightly... obnoxious, Danailov is incredibly rude. I'm supporting Anand in this match! The whole silence issue is just silly - I mean I like a fight but it seems a bit silly to me the way Topalov has pressed it.lmader wrote: Seriously, does anyone like this guy? Or am I way off base here?

Will Rogers would have liked him.lmader wrote:Is it just me, or does Topalov seem like a real, umm, a-hole? Ever since the shenanigans during his world-championship match against Kramnik in 2006, he has left a bad taste. And his treatment of Anand in this match seems pretty poor.
