New DamirRK56.

Post by Tomcass »

Damir's versions are stronger every day. Look at these results:

Gui: Fritz 12
Ponder: Off
Time control: 4 min + 2 sec.
Book: HS Masterbook 2.0
DRK56 and Mishas12T using ONE CORE.
Deep Rybka4, Fire 1.31 and Naum 4.2 using FOUR CORES.

120 games.

2010-06DamirRKiller56-1 2010

DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - MishasMauler12T_w32 13.0 - 17.0 +4/=18/-8 43.33%
DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - Deep Rybka 4 w32 10.0 - 20.0 +3/=14/-13 33.33%
DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - Fire 1.31 w32KLO 9.0 - 21.0 +0/=18/-12 30.00%
DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - Naum 4.2 (x4) 11.5 - 18.5 +2/=19/-9 38.33%

DRK 56 has got an impressive 33,89% against Deep Rybka4, Fire 1.31 and Naum 4.2, with such a big handicap in cores. (Current tests -going on- are good but not that excellent).

On the other hand, look at this new, powerful MishasMauler12T. Perhaps the best engine today in the world using one core. (Not enough games, I know, but... please, rely on the instinct of this old tester). :D

and now:

Same rivals and time control in a 8 threads computer.

Gui: Fritz 12
Ponder: Off
Book: HS Masterbook 1.0
Time control: 4 min + 2 sec.
DRK56 and Mishas12T using ONE CORE and w32.
Deep Rybka4, Fire 1.31 and Naum 4.2 using EIGHT CORES and w64.

120 games.

201006DRKiller56-1 2010

DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - MishasMauler12T_w32 14.0 - 16.0 +4/=20/-6 46.67%
DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - Deep Rybka 4 x64 9.0 - 21.0 +0/=18/-12 30.00%
DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - Fire 1.31 x64 9.5 - 20.5 +2/=15/-13 31.67%
DamirsRybkaKiller56_w32 - Naum 4.2 64(x8) 7.5 - 22.5 +0/=15/-15 25.00%

With this huge (cores and w32) handicap DRK56 has got an excellent 28,89% score against Deep Rybka4, Fire 1.31 and Naum 4.2

I noticed that everytime you quote these builds they are 32-bit and single core. Is it because they do not exist as x64 and MP?

Yes, Albert. No MP or w64 available -as far as I know- for these engines.

It is worth mentioning that the results aren't really that incredible. If one goes by the CEGT blitz list for example, Rybka 4 single CPU is about 80 elo less than Rybka 4 4CPU, but Damir is scoring about 120 Elo less (33%), which makes it about 40 elo weaker than Rybka 4 Single-core.

Yes, but DRK is free, so the price of each elo is about $2.

The point is that it is not stronger than the other Ippos. It may even be weaker.

Then all I can say is that you missed the point. Tom posted this with the claim that it was the top single-core engine around, based on these results. My "point" (as you put it) is that his results don't show this at all.

It's no big deal, but nowhere in Tom's post did he claim that DRK was the top single-core engine. This was his "claim" ...

"On the other hand, look at this new, powerful MishasMauler12T. Perhaps the best engine today in the world using one core."

And for the sake of accuracy, "perhaps" doesn't mean it is, it means "perhaps it is".
