I play 17.Bd3. I'd rather not be forcing Connie's moves, but it's not easy to improve my position quietly. So far Connie has played almost perfectly, unless you want to criticize ...Rfd8. My rook-odds human opponents don't play this well.
With only 3 un-attacked Squares to choose from Connie slides her Q to..
17..Qh6

I don't envy Larry's plight. 18. Bc1..Qh5 19. Re1.
Good guessing there, Terry! Let's see some more
Actually those moves were pretty obvious and 19. Re1 was needed to break the pin, support the e-pawn and as Larry mentioned with the idea of Re1..e4 & h4 chasing the Q and putting pressure on the Black King.
Well the hope is there, a lot Black can do and I really don't know what the Connie will play here with a short search. However, it may be more than 5 ply but Larry knows better than I.
I think the Connie should play 19..d6 but I don't think it will. Maybe 19..Na5 or Nd5...? really have to wait and see.
Oh and Larry is a much better player than me. I'm as rusty as the Tin Man these days.

I reply 19.Re1, partly to unpin my knight, but also with the possibility of R-e4-h4. I can hope that some critical lines will be beyond the roughly five ply horizon of Connie.

i doubt Connie even considered a R lift to e4 but the text does prevent that for the time being
personally i just think she was feeling a bit impatient and finally was able to make a move not defending her Q

Finally some error by Connie, not a real blunder but definitively move low in the list of good moves.
If she only played d6...

So how deep is Connie searching? I remember having the Super Constellation when it came out and it could often do 4 or 5 ply in the middle-game at very fast time controls.
If it's being given an hour or two to think, it must be searching at least 8 or 9 ply, right? No?

the TC for this game is 3 minutes per move
i have her set to level 5 which is 3 minutes per move Avg .but i force her to move once the time hits 3 minutes
NO PONDERING in between moves
i really have no idea how deep she searches because as i posted earlier in this thread i can only see the current move she is pondering while on the move ..not even the opponents rely as there is no feature for this ..also i cannot see the search
depth
my guess is that 5 ply is about right but perhaps deeper if there are exchanges ,piece attack threats , checks ..etcetc

Yes, my estimate of 5 ply means 5 ply plus an extra ply for each check and then plus all captures (and perhaps one check, I don't know) after these 5 plies.

Maybe 20. Bg5. It might do some harm if the Connie is myopic to 20..h6? 21. Bxe7 etc.

The problem is can the Connie see 20..d4! followed up with 21..Re8..?
Maybe 19..d5!? wasn't the best but it can lead to trouble aiming for d4.
OTH, 20. Bg5, if the Connie screws up could lead to a Q-Trap. It has to play well. Will it?
I think when material down that you have to play trappy moves.

Following the Connie 3.6 ..Novag released the Super Connie which of course has a wealth of literature written about it
but very little is written about the Connie 2.0 and Connie 3.6
after a bit of research this evening the only reference i can find in the literature to the Connie2.0/3.6 is from a very early Computer Chess Digest(predecessor to the Computer Chess Reports)
in the 1984 Annual issue it shows the Constellation 2.0 Mhz as searching 5 ply Brute and 10 Ply Selective in "typical middle game" positions
the Connie 3.6 is of course searching 80% faster then the 2.0
dont know how accurate the information was back then
Dr. Enrique Irazoqui and Dr.Danny Kopec where the main contributors back then which was well before you took over the helm for ICD

I know a lot about the Connie, it did a fairly conventional brute force search. Connie did a bit of forward pruning on the last ply and the "selective" ply is nothing more than quies search (with checks.)
