Those new generation phones with the 1gHz snapdragon processors are wicked.I just got myself an Acer NeoTouch S200 which runs WM6.5 and when I compare the speed up compared to my iPaq Enterprise 212 which has a Marvell 624mhz some engines reported an 8 x speedup.
Still it will be interesting to see how the new Iphone4 compares.I just wish someone could do the same port for WM, maybe as an extra engine for PocketFritz.I sadly don't know anything about programming so cant be of help
Hey Tord ... great job! I wouldn't worry about any bugs out there as this is all pretty much bleeding edge stuff. If there were no bugs then your life would be boring I always thought that a remote setup for a chess engine is the ideal solution as chess, by its very nature, is CPU intensive and drains the battery off the iPhone pretty quick. The remote setup allows minimal battery drain in comparison.
The iphone is really great, I have several construction sites that I hate having to visit since they are in different places. I am now putting ip cameras for each site (including meeting room) so that I don't have to be physically there and yet I can see everything that is going on via an iphone application. This is another killer application that can really make my life easier as well as improve productivity.
this are great news for all apple users. The perfect reason for an upgrade to iOS 4 ... even on my old iPod touch 2nd generation (without the multitasking feature).
All went well, but in analyse mode of this position
Glaurung 2.0 terminates every time after about 15 seconds (shortly after the screenshot was done).
Is this an issue only on my iPod?
All the best,
Max
Hi,
my iPod just got the new update with Glaurung version 2.1 and the reported bug is gone! And perhaps the engine is now Stockfish 1.8?
Tord, thank you very much for this great gift to the community.

On the 3GS and earlier devices, Hiarcs is much stronger. Stockfish's search falls apart tactically on the slow CPU, and it has no chance against Hiarcs.
Stockfish on the iPhone 4 is a very different animal: The strength improvement compared to the 3GS seems to be bigger than you would expect from the increased speed by itself. I haven't made any tests against Hiarcs, but I expect the two programs to be closer on the iPhone 4. I still think Hiarcs would be the stronger program, but without tests, I'm not quite sure.
Hi Tord. Is there any chance you would consider releasing Glaurung 1 for the iPhone again as a seperate app?
Some of us sadly don't have a device capable of installing iOS 4 (I'm using a 1st gen iPod Touch), and I'm really sad that i have lost my favorite chess software for it, to play against when I'm on the move.
I hope you will truly consider this (i trust you still have the source code?). If not, i would like to thank you for the time i managed to spend with it!
I would like to second Athiniras wish, I also use 1st gen ipod touch. It was a great game to have. So please, if it's not too much trouble, release it again.
Using my Ipad, searching for glauring or stockfish does not yield any results, for either an ipad or iphone.
Any plans for either a stand alone stockfish for the ipad, or better yet, a remote version that will work with win 7 64 bit, where the moves will be displayed on he ipad screen?

Recompiling from the old source code wouldn't help, because I don't have the 3.1 SDK (or any earlier versions) installed. The last version of Apple's development tools I downloaded seems to have rudely deleted all previous SDKs without even asking.
I'll have a look and see if the 3.1 or 3.0 SDK is available as a separate download somewhere. If it is, compiling a new binary with 3.1 compatibility from the current source code should be easy. I'll give it a try in the next version (there will probably be a minor bugfix release soon).
