I bet a full cradle of beer delivered to your home on my expenses that you cant show me a link where he wrote this! If you can't show a link I get ONE beer for free on our next meeting - agreed?
I am not member in OpenChess.
So its not easy to search the messages Robert wrote. I remember me that I read it around middle of the year.
But perhaps you can search it as member. I am sure as member you can use a search option.
You know that my English isn't good. Perhaps I don't understand different things but I am sure that Robert wrote such things in Open Chess in summer 2010.

Obviously you read something without beeing a member...? And does anyone deserve a gratification if someone elso does the work ...?
But anyhow, I could grizzle around a bit about possible different meanings of "designed" and "wrote" and their meanings in german, I could point to some linguistic subtleties but ... I dont want ot be sore looser.
You have my email, please send me your address (but do not expect something this year or even before christmas!)

Ippo and co - ok. I understand!
But what about Houdini?
We have legal author, legal rate of play (about +40 +50 ELO stronger than Ippo). What else?
Let's assume that Houdini is a clone of decompiled Rybka 3. If we would belive to Vas.
But there is a BIG question: how the clone could be stronger at approx. 100 ELO?
CEGT crew has had a poll and most members voted not to test Ippo and co. for the lists. As every tester can test the engine he likes - we have private tests of these engines - but we do not list them. I think there is the same decision in CCRL Group.

You can no longer ignore the – by far - best engine of the world.
Everybody knows Houdini 1.5 is the best chess engine around and a lot of professional and amateur chessplayers are going to use it and take benefit of it.
You are also denying the incredible effort and significant programming skills of Robert Houdart and behave hypocritic, by using Houdini for testing while not publishing the results.
Others like Ingo Bauer, Frank Quisinsky, Sedat Canbaz have overcome their scepsis, but you still behave as real CCC Taliban.
It is a disgrace. The least you could do is reconsider your "Ippo and co" judgement and choose this unique engine to test.
grts Bram
I do not think that the CEGT or CCRL deny the
incredible effort and significant programming skills of Robert Houdart.
Refusing to test some program does not mean something negative about the skills of the author and it can be only because the people who refuse to test it think that he did something immoral by starting from ippolit.
I do not think that he did something immoral but
I clearly understand that other may think differently.
There are cases that I will also support refusing to test an engine if it is clear that the engine is based on illegal activity.
If somebody starts from stockfish and improve it by 200 elo and make the code close then I also support refusing to test it without denying the skills of the author and the fact that the engine is the best in the world.
exactly right, that is what i had want to say here some days ago, but this dont want hear anybody, they close his eyes and ears, and want get only a number 1 above R4, the most silly of all is, that now many of these people will pay for some ippolit clones too !, so what next ?............ very mad and silly just we have this time.
Fruit ->> Rybka 1.0 beta +100 elo
Ippolit ->> Houdini 1.0 +100 elo now may he get +150 elo now, but this is meaningless, thrueth are seems that he grap ippolit code from start what is for me more plausible then he tryed since 30 years without success to come with any normal strength engine to release.

Yes, same with CCRL too.
