After many trials and experiences, i have arrived to the conclusion that the very best gui's are CB and Chess partner, in that order. The last in my list is Arena. I have had always problems with it: for some reason if you change something in the course of a game, you get stuck. Some times you cannot take back and then resume the game. It get frozen and you must put it to sleep.
I appreciate the effort the people of Arena has invested on this, for no money, but ...
Probably it is my fault. I am not a geek, usually i do not handle Ok these contrivances.
Only problem with chess partner gui is that the native engine is sooo weak, but in fact you can use so many others., so really does not qualify as a problem.
I wanted to make this statement because chess partner company does not receive too many accolades and nevertheless they are there, surviving, delivering, in the middle of an age where every week a chess company fall in flames.

Re: Chess Partner GUI
Looking at the screenshots, it's interface seems very usable, with plenty of features too.
Does it have a native database format, or does it just use PGN files ?

I to like the CB gui but am partial to the Shredder GUI for playing and analyzing (probably because it was the first one I got).
I do like the Chess partner engine Ktulu! Fun engine to work with sometimes!

Re: Chess Partner GUI
Arena is by far the best GUI for engine tournaments.
CB has many problems with UCI
My second choise is Shredder GUI.
I use Arena for many years and I never had a serius problem...

I have no problems with Arena, and it is free!

ChessPartner ?
I think Lex Loep is happy !
But................................
-no cross-table in tournament mode ,
-a minimalistic ERT for matches & tournaments ,
-no logos display ,
-no support for CBSP (ChessBase Saint Protocol)-so no Fritzy on CP GUI ,
-no Monte Carlo Casino Analysis ,
-only an integrated Wb2Uci for Wb engines ,
-complicated management of both GUI & engine books;
-the native LCHESS is a minimalistic chess engine ,
-no Ken Thompson bases delivered with this GUI ,
-no Lokasoft (Grand )IdeeA on this GUI ,
................................................................& many more !
My conclusion : I love ChessPartner GUI !
And...........................................................
a question : why not Shredder GUI ? Being extremely serious ( an everyday status for me , of course ) -Shredder GUI is by far the best.UCI protocol itself. Nice , stable ,functional , complex !
The last question : banned or not ?
CPartner regards,
S

Re: A wonder !
I was unfair. I should include shredder GUI as my second best. But, you see, I tried to make Lex even happier.
