Note that I am working on upgrading the user interface of XBoard with menu dialogs, and would appreciate some feedback. See:

Some screenshots:
New Dialogs

Note this is a float

The savePositionFile is also included

Sound dialog with combobox for "Draw" pulled open.

The colors can be adjusted through a kind of 3d spin buttons

Should perhaps be split n two?

An entirely new dialog in connection with the new "Machine Match" menu item

Options that used to be in the main Option menu
Redone:

New Variant now included board-format overrules

Uses spin controls now

Also here spin buttons

Re: Feedback from XBoard users sought
I only use Xboard in -ics and -zippy mode and there are a couple of things I'd like to comment on:
1. Whenever you close a dialog, it shows something in the terminal "xWidget exited unexpectedly" if I recall (or something very similar). It doesn't affect anything really, because the settings take, but it can be annoying.
2. There is no place to type. When I type in the console, and a new line is sent from the ICS, it breaks up my typing line so that I can no longer use the backspace properly. It's hardly better than a telnet window with no echo.

Re: Feedback from XBoard users sought
Ok, I'll look into (1).
About (2): This has really always been the case in XBoard. As a solution the "ICS Input Box" was devised. It can be opened from the View menu, or with the command-line option -icsinput. (Which I think I even configured as default setting in the standard install.) There you can type undesturbed by ICS output, fully edit the line, and use arrow keys to recall command history.
As an external alternative there exists a general utilility to run an application with GNU ReadLine, which allows editing and reprints interrupted lines in the X-term console. (Forgot the name.)
