Re: SWCR LIVE: Komodo 3.0 w32 & Komodo 3.0 x64
question: I notice that you use both I7 and older machines. Do you use SSE versions on the I7 or do you run all the tests on non-sse?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: SWCR LIVE: Komodo 3.0 w32 & Komodo 3.0 x64
Hi Larry,
I used for SWCR Q9950 systems only. 4 Q9550 systems for SWCR, 2 Q9550 systems for private other things I do around computer chess. My tester Andrea Sourcinelli used an i7 system. He sent me so far 600 SWCR games I added in the database, can be see in the database if you download it.
All other games are played with Q9950, in the very first beginning with E8400, E6750 systems which have around the same MHz.
With other words I don't use SSE versions and Andrea used after my information the same versions I used. SWCR is with other words completly without SSE engine versions.
Best and thanks for KOMODO, I like version 3.0!

The version of Komodo you are using is the low performance version and we only provide it to support those who have old hardware.Frank Quisinsky wrote:Hi Larry,

This explains why the results is lower for Komodo on your list compared to other lists - you are running a handicapped version of Komodo.

Re: SWCR LIVE: Komodo 3.0 w32 & Komodo 3.0 x64
Hi Don,
thanks for your statement.
At first, no tested chess programm is running with SSE in SWCR. Important for me is: All with the same conditions.
SWCR-64
An very experiment list because w32 and x64 are still running. I test settings too. Not from all engines we have a 64bit version.
I wrote a lot about this topic in the german CSS forum.
You can't added a formel 1 car with a touring car in the same race. You can't added a mounten bike and a racing cycle in the same race. We have to build classes for it.
w32 class
x64 class
w32 2 core class
x64 2 core class
or
x64 with SSE class
SWCR-32
My main rating list. All engines can play with 32bit under the same conditions. We know Komodo have an advantage 64bit to 32bit from around 60-65 ELO. We know how strong are engines with factor 1.4 - 1.8 on two cores, or around factor 3.2 on four cores. If users like they can calculate plus x ELO for all the time factors they like to the basic 32bit result.
The basic is for myself more important as x64, more cores, SSE. All with the same starting position, hardware, same conditions and so on.
Furthermore, it make no sense to start a rating list without SSE and later add SSE versions. I can't produce a direct compare between all the available engine versions.
And at last, I test SSE with two engines and around 2.000 games per version. I compare the results and find out that SSE will give us an advantage from around 5 ELO.
Result 1: 7 ELO
Result 2: 3 ELO
Not sure but I think for my list SSE isn't important. Because a rating list have to create a hard compare between the participant engines with the same conditions. All what is possible should be the same, the configuration, book and all other things. Only if all is the same I can produce a list with exactly differents between the engines. Means that a list with w32 and x64 for an example produce a correct rating but not a correct place in a list.
Part of my concept

Re: After the first 360 x64 & 340 w32 Komodo 3 games!
Hi Don,
here the current standing of all SWCR games (SWCR-32 & SWCR-64):
After the round robin I will update the SWCR-32 and SWCR-64.
Results are not clear enough:
At the moment 85 ELO between Komodo 3.0 w32 and Komodo 3.0 x64 but it should be 60 - 65 ELO.
I think Komodo 3.0 x64 will lose a bit points and Komodo 3.0 w32 will win more points after a bad start.

Re: After the first 360 x64 & 340 w32 Komodo 3 games!
The 32 bit version of Komodo is much weaker than the 64 bit version, more than most other programs so that is not a surprise.Frank Quisinsky wrote:Hi Don,
here the current standing of all SWCR games (SWCR-32 & SWCR-64):
After the round robin I will update the SWCR-32 and SWCR-64.
Results are not clear enough:
At the moment 85 ELO between Komodo 3.0 w32 and Komodo 3.0 x64 but it should be 60 - 65 ELO.
I think Komodo 3.0 x64 will lose a bit points and Komodo 3.0 w32 will win more points after a bad start.
Your list shows Komodo 64 only 22 ELO weaker than Houdini which is way too much for Komodo. So I expect Komodo to drop at least 30 more ELO because Houdini uses SSE but you forbid other engines to have this advantage.

Re: After the first 360 x64 & 340 w32 Komodo 3 games!
Hi Don,
I believe before your release Komodo 1.2 you wrote that you try to optimate the 32bit version a bit better.
Look here:
http://www.amateurschach.de/swcr/swcr_3 ... -64bit.htm
You do that with success.
Only 50 ELO different and not 60-65 ELO different!
I know that you don't use 32bit systems. Tord Romstad wrote in the interview a bit to 32bit / 64bit. After all results I have and information I have a 64bit versions should not more as 30 ELO better as a 64bit version or the 32bit version isn't optimated.
My wish to you is to try to optimate the 32bit version too. Most of people I know from my chess club and so on useing 32bit systems. If you buy a new system you will get in the most of cases Windows 7 64bit. OK, but you know that Windows XP is very popular.
I think both is important.
SSE:
After the round robin I can start the same round robin with the SSE version of Komodo 3.0 x64. So we can look.
Best
Frank

That would be great. On the Rybka forum Richard Vida wrote that Komodo benefit's hugely from SSE.Frank Quisinsky wrote:Hi Don,
