Hi Graham,

Right now, I am starting to use ChessGUI for engine-engine matches (using Round Robin).
I am looking for some good, balanced cgb books.
I have tried the (ChessGUI-included) ChsGUI_Book.cgb and also Perfect_2010.cgb. But with them, the games begin after so many book moves (around 20 or more...) that we are already in late middle game! :(
Is it possible to limit the moves and how?

Or what cgb book would you advise (I don't want to go into book-building myself)?
What do you think and where can I download some of the cgb books you (or CCRL) have used:
HarrySchnapp
AdamHair 8moves (I think 8moves is what I want, but which one: the "mini" or the "not mini")
Picasso (what is this "new" book?)
Other...

Hi Ernest,

Under Game/Engine Tournament/Normal Chess, you'll see the Options 2 tab you'll see a GUI Preferences tab with a Book Options tab underneath. You select your book in the GUI Preferences tab. In the Book Options tab you can limit the number of moves as well as select random openings per game, etc.

I would recommend any of the following books (although there is obviously no perfect book):
Perfect 2010.cgb, HarrySchnapp.cgb, Charlotte 1.0.cgb, AdamHair8moves.cgb, Silver 2011.cgb or Picasso.cgb.
Some of them or mini versions of them are provided within the ChessGUI download package.
The Picasso.cgb book can be downloaded here (assuming the link is still active) - http://adf.ly/2zEzg
The Silver 2011.cgb book can be downloaded here - http://kirill-kryukov.com/chess/discuss ... p?id=24458

Regards,
Graham.

OK, I had seen that, but could not find the signification of
* checking or not the box "Use GUI remis Book" (I checked)
* what are sequential per cycle (I checked that) or per game, random per cycle/game (has Matthias explained it somewhere?)
* I left BookLine Offset at default 1 and Book Moves at default 2. Obviously that doesn't limit the number of moves (so how to do to limit, say to 10?)
Some of them or mini versions of them are provided within the ChessGUI download package.

The Silver 2011.cgb book can be downloaded here - http://kirill-kryukov.com/chess/discuss ... p?id=24458
Indeed, I found the books inside the ChessGUI download package, thanks!!!
Did get the Silver 2011.cgb, but no dice for Picasso.cgb (maybe there is another link?)

Thanks anyway, for all the help, Graham...

In the Book Options, you can limit the number of moves played from book. I usually check random per game to get more variety. Sequential per cycle means that the same opening will be played for all games in a cycle.
Here is the Picasso book for you - http://kirill-kryukov.com/chess/discuss ... p?id=24461
