Hi Marek,
I couldn't get this to install under Fritz 13 or Shredder Classic GUI.
Could you explain the ideas behind the added code?
Cheers,
Steve

This compile needs MSVCP90D.dll and MSVCR90D.dll. If that's not enough, maybe try recompiling?
Vanilla SF 1.8-ja is was posted here, and the good.net mirror still works. You can see the difference in search.cpp.

Thanks - I'll give it a try.UncombedCoconut wrote:This compile needs MSVCP90D.dll and MSVCR90D.dll. If that's not enough, maybe try recompiling?
I realize I can wade through code but I'm not familiar with the core Stockfish code. And Marek seems to have focused on improving one concept (sacrifices) and seems to be willing to share these ideas. So I'd be more interested in the ideas behind what Marek has added.UncombedCoconut wrote:. You can see the difference in search.cpp.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Sting 1.0 beta (based on Stockfish 1.8)
As I earlier wrote, I hope that all is ok with Sting license now
.
Sting is to realize only one thread: To extract “lost intelligence” of engines in analysis.
If it can give any ELO gain (logically, it seems to be possible after some changes and a special tuning), it will be a side case effect, for me.
I tested some other positions and I see that my idea needs a serious longer work. It seems to be a good starting point only.
E.g. it is a risk to use too high value of the option “Sacrifice detection” in many positions.
It is not easy to set depth too (a program question).
But I believe that it is some good way.
As it was mentioned above (Thanks!) I can’t compile Sting optimally or well.
The next version will be a source code only and for the newest version of Stockfish.

I think it could be a good idea if you acknowledge the work of Tord, Marco and Joona in a separate readme file, mentioning that your work wouldn'd have been possible if not for the great work of Stockfish team.
I don't think they're looking for acknowledgements... But I think i'd do something like that if changes were of mine.
