I am curious as to why you had to go all the way to version 50 to get a good one. I talked to PeterPan (Izak) and he told me to tell you he did not compile for Linux. But that KLO did. Those are all his compiles you see on this link. Please understand that when you go from 46 to 50, you are regressing- 46 being the latest. It is backwards from the way you have been taught. But the letters are normal. Just remember the latest is always the smallest number, with the highest letter.
I would check each version from 46 down to see if I could find one later than the 50's. But I guess it is better than nothing. He said to tell you that the comparison between 2 engines in Linux should- I said should- be comparable to the difference in same 2 engines in Windows. Only problem is remember KLO's compiles are approx. 30 to 70 elo weaker than PPs in Windows, and you are starting with exes over a year old with 50, but at least it is a start. Let me know if I can help in any way.

george
PS: Look at this shit Lucas- we got some sharp mods. Instead of deleting the crap and cleaning everything up, they moved it and left the trash. Why am I not surprised.
geots wrote:If you run an Ivanhoe version, take 46h for example. If you go to KLO's page and use any version with "9" at the beginning, ie 9.46h, you are running the weakest compile, generally speaking.
If you run PeterPan's version, it will be 46h, it will be stronger. If you see where PP has one reading B46h- that is the monster. Those have many more value changes- and trust me PP makes no mistakes. The 46h compile by him would mean he did not make as many changes. But always go for his.
george
PS: It is really nothing hard or difficult to get the correct one. The problem is people are trying to get a bunch of versions right now. Once caught up, you would just wait for the 45 version to come out- and you only have one compile to download. Hell, I could get it for you in 30 seconds.
George, I'm looking for the best Linux compile of Ivanhoe. I'd like to test it if it is still open source. Do you know where to find it?
I'd be glad to add it to my private rating list of open source engines.
thank you
but i need to register to their forum to download the file. and the forum really sucks: adverts everywhere, popups and flash animations... I'm afraid I'll give it a miss
Lucas- just wait till you here from me. I don't want you wasting cpus on junk.
george
Thanks. That's exactly what I want to hear
But I will only test if it's open source. I won't test closed source derivatives of Ippolit (nor closed source programs in general). But, unlike most testers, I have no prejudice against the Ippolit family, all the contrary!
All are open source- every last one. I would not tell you that if I was not 100% sure. Please look in other part of this page where I answered one of your posts after Silvian helped. I gave you good instructions. If you don't see it, let me know. Be around an hour or so before I get some sleep. Listen carefully. Ivanhoe is completely clean- as clean as any engine you have ever run. You can take that to the bank. Please ignore the "md5" , or whatever it has on the end of any version. "M" means it is a mini- version- just as strong, but for people who have smaller interfaces. Leave them alone.
Best,
George

latest is best is not always the case
with several earlier ivanhoes doing far better vs certain engines than later ones

Actually I will test Robbolito 0.084 to begin with. I compiled it myself, as I had to make a few trivial code modifications (to correct the idiotic name given of the Hash UCI option). Also I added the link time optimization option to the Makefile to have an even faster compile. That's using GCC 4.6, so I'm pretty sure you can't make a significantly faster compile or it. As for this business of a compile being better by 50-70 elo than the other, there must be something seriously wrong with what KLO did, or they don't compile the same code... So I'll have a look and compile Ivanhoe myself, to be sure I'm not using crap
But trust me, the GNU C Compiler (GCC) beats the crap out of any Micro$oft attempt to making a compiler. So it's not a question of WIndows vs Linux, on the contrary.

You should test RobboLito 0.09- it is latest and strongest. But be aware there will be no more RobboLitos. Development is over. All effort goes now to one engine- Ivanhoe.

OK I'll test IvanHoe 46a only then (when my test of Daydreamer 1.75 is finished). I'll post results on my Open Source Blitz Rating List (cf. my thread in this forum). How does it compare to StockFish 2.2.1, you reckon ?
