George, get real! Nobody complained about your post!

1) why would someone complain about your original post?

2) then, in the extraordinary event where someone wanted to complain, there would be nothing to moderate: that's what I would PM this person, and I would post nothing in your thread.

3) if I posted something in your thread it's obviously that I "gave a rat's ass", to quote you. And I found your post interesting.

4) My post was friendly, and I was just sharing my own experience about testing and statistics. So I'm extremely surprised by your enormous aggressiveness. Just like Thord pointed it out there is something dysfunctional and toxic with this community, and as soon as I'm done with my duty as a mod I will just leave to never come back.

I have no idea who Thord is, but I doubt I am enough to be the reason anyone would stay or leave. If what I said was true, how is that being critical of you? All it would mean is you were doing your job. If someone did complain- how does that make you the bad guy. You have to check it out. That is one of the reasons you are a damn good moderator.

At any rate, if I am wrong- which I probably am- who do I apologize to? I would immediately apologize to you- but for what?! I am very sorry that you felt offended. And I will admit I really did not pay attention to what you posted about your bullet games. I should have read it more carefully. I am sorry that you took an interest in my thread, and I took it for something else.

Best,

Only sincere apologies matter, George. One that I would accept would be "Sorry for getting wild and aggressive. I didn't slept during 48 hours and that's why I was touchy and didn't understood your points. I apologize to Jesús and Julien."

And I would accept such an apology providing it is sincere. Although it won't change my mind: I'm tired of all the insults, wars and aggressively in this community. I think that during our term we (Don, Miguel and me) are making a difference and improving things but I'm also under the depressing impression that if we were to leave just for a couple of days everything would go back to perpetual wars.

I created my engine because it was very interesting and a complex enough piece of software to be intellectually stimulating. But now all this toxic atmosphere is turning my once nice hobby into a tiring and depressive hell.

I am not a masochist and I feel no pleasure being insulted (and as a mod I can't answer to provocations. Not that I would answer if I wasn't a mod: I tend to ignore the insulters instead.), whether it is here or in other fora. So as soon as I'm done here I'll turn to some mentally safer passions instead (astronomy, demomaking, writing, artificial consciousness...) far away from this cuckoo clock.

I very much hope that you choose to stick around. If you leave the forum, it gives me one less reason to hang around.

Thanks for those kind words, Adam!

After years of laissez-faire to wars (that's why they've grown to such proportions), the community is so divided that moderating Talkchess is a very taxing job for the nervous system currently, so there are days when you're just fed up. So there are times when I would definitely enjoy a break. Then I remember that some people are counting on us and trust us, and I get my motivation back.

Btw, George and me had a PM discussion and we're cool again, now ;)
