Bruja can be used with any generic opening book you choose. The internal book only comes into play when it leaves the generic opening book which, as I noted to George, will be seldom if ever if your generic book is at all comprehensive.
Graham Banks wrote:Pretty sure that any games played by Bruja before Jim added the disable book option were discarded. There wouldn't have been many.
Doesn't matter. As I noted the internal book has negligible effect on play.
Graham Banks wrote:Sorry you were upset by my grumbling. I was just keen to test your engine for CCRL.
Not upset in the least. In fact, keep up the grumbling, it encourages progress. Any engine releases of mine will heretofore include an option to turn off the internal book if there is one.

Are you guys going to test the version of Strelka with the position database?

Dan, you asked the 3rd most important question. You stopped before the most important 2??!:

1. "Then am I right that you guys are going to just leave it alone and not test it? You would never test it after something had been disabled without the author's permission, would you??!"

2. "I see Strelka 5.5 is in the rating list with just under 200 games. Were those games run WITH the database of moves in the engine REMOVED with your full knowledge the author had not approved it?"

(I am curious if someone will say they were not aware the author didn't know.)

Hi George,

Importance is relative. You're most interested in the hacking angle. I don't much care what happens with Strelka but, if they let Strelka play with a position database, they should let me play with a position database. But, Graham said they aren't going to test it so I have no complaint.

To your concern, is 5.5 the version with the database? I see they have tested 5.5. If it is the database version they must have disabled it or they don't know about it. I'm sure Graham can enlighten us.

Dan, my question.......... well, like good lawyers say, you never ask a question you don't already know the answer to. In that respect, it was merely rhetorical.

That was one of the most crude and rude things I have ever seen a programmer do when Richard Vida went into the Strelka 5.5 engine, removed the database of moves in it- then told people that version was ready to use now. No way he had a right to do that- not IMO.

Surely not one person is testing it with the database of moves removed, I would hope. I have made my feelings known, but I am not interested in a debate over it. Just rather how most people seem to be testing it, and how- with or w/o the moves database in it.

Thanks,

george
Ummm... George, where is the question???

Did CCRL test Strelka with the position database removed? George says the answer is yes.

I've asked Graham to get an official answer.
