And We Have the First Freeware Results!

Post by geots »

I have results from Groups 13 and 14. Please check the specs, because they will be the same for all groups and all engines. The only thing that varies will be either Fritz 11 or Fritz 13 gui.

A few years back I was running 2 and 3 at a time for CCRL, and it takes a lot of writing and copying and typing for neat results. Next week when we get 3 or 4 more RRs running at the same time with these, it may be that to give regular updates I will just post the clipboard crosstable. But we shall see how it goes.

Group 14 is running in Fritz 11 & Group 13 is running in Fritz 13.

Intel i5 w/4TCs
Fritz 11 gui/Fritz 13 gui
1CPU/32-bit or 64-bit where available

Bases=NONE [No egtb & no egbb]
Ponder_Learning=OFF

I was afraid this was going to happen- I know myself too well. Now I am starting to get expectant and excited about these results- and can't wait to get some more RRs started. There is just something about these freewares that I don't get from running the commercials.

Very interesting,
34 games and only 4 draws, and 30 wins.

It is unusual, but very interesting, if a tournament between humans organizers would be happy.
:P :P :P

16.Jabba 1.0 0.0

A footnote here. I will have to divide up what I run on my other quad very carefully. (And of course benchmark it to CCRL 40/40 first). Because it will not run popcnt or sse and does not have any Java programs installed, I will have to pick and choose carefully. But it is an overclocked speed demon with enough fans to cool my house.

I was going to wait till October to order an Intel i7 with 6 cores to go with my i5 4 core system (I told them I wanted the fastest cores Intel made), but I may just order it in a week or so. It's only money.

On another note, it is early in both of the above RRs, but I think I have noticed one engine that is in over his head. MatMoi 7.15.0 is in a lot of trouble. He and his opponent both showed MatMoi up a little over 3.50 going into the endgame. Not only could MatMoi not win- he could not even salvage a draw. No malfunction, no time loss- he just blew it.

One nice thing happened. An engine we all like, and one that plays damn good chess- has sat there 2 to 4 years- maybe 5- because the author told me he lost interest. He got in touch with me because of this tourney- and sent me a 64bit version to enter in place of his 32bit. He thinks he has the fever again, and God I hope so. From what I gathered it is not just a move to 64 bit- but a major overhaul of every aspect of the engine. Can't wait for Group 9 to get here and it goes to work.

Tomorrow-

Re: And Now We Are On To Monday's Battles

Post by geots »

If I am correct- we had 3 engines with a big "zero" out by their name. 2 of the 3 managed to break through and score- but our MatMoi is still fighting for his life!

Actually I am also in the middle of trying to set things up on my other quad. At least my method I found out will work- if I follow the steps correctly, all 300 or 400 engines I have will all show up in the gui at once- installed and ready to play. And I don't have to manually install a one. Then I have to see if I can run Fritz 11 gui in 3 diff RRs at the same time on it also. As it is xp.

Enough rambling- on to some results:

Intel i5 w/4TCs

What is happening with MatMoi?
In the tournament 'Dabbaba and the Cupcake' it ended 4.th out of 12.

So far my Dabbaba is doing better than I expected :)

Jens

PS. Great with such a tournament!

PS. Great with such a tournament!

BTW, more results shortly. But I am surprised as well. When I just play it at same controls ag. some of these engines, it wins its share. But MatMoi has a couple issues that don't help it as well.

As for Dabbaba, I am mildly surprised with its success. Usually at 40/40 a max hash of 24 is a hindrance. But it hasn't bothered your engine. (I remember a particular Hiarcs version that maxed at 32MB hash at long controls). But I hope you will fix it so I can set it myself.

Best and keep up the play.

george

PS: In the tourn. you mentioned where MatMoi finished 4th, it did finish ahead of a few here. But exactly 50% of the engines in that tourn. are not in this one. One might argue some are stronger- but I am not quite so sure. And it would be 7 different out of 12 if I include your new Dabbaba version I am running that was not out then.

Re: Groups 13 & 14- Tuesday Results!

Hope to have a couple more RRS started soon- probably 3. Unexpected problems with my other quad that is slowing things down. I thought windows XP would be easy to set up- with paths I was used to. But I had no idea that this machine has a 32-bit hard drive and a 64-bit hard drive. Well, I had been told- but trying to wade and crawl around finding all the paths are not the breeze I thought. Anyway, more results:

At any rate, stay tuned.
