Well, not sure that would be commercially wise....
Folks who just spent some bucks on Houdini would then likely not spend quickly some more money for a 2nd engine.....

The Komodo team is chasing a moving target and believe me it's not that easy ta catch up and release a proper chess engine let alone to gain success commercial wise.......

Another point of view is that they'll take a closer look at Houdini 3....after all it will be the current moving target to catch up with

It's always possible that Houdini 3 will have some new algorithm that would help any engine, in which case I expect someone will discover that by comparisons to Ivanhoe. But more likely the improvements will only be of the type that will help other Ippo-derivatives, such as tuned values for the eval terms, in which case it will be no help to us. So far we have gotten only a handful of elo points from ideas attributed to Houdini on this forum, and not much more than that from Ippo ideas other than those in common with Stockfish.

According to that test Stockfish 2.3.1 is stronger than Houdini 2.0c !!

That just demonstrates once again that self-play (i.e. playing related engines) overstates rating differences.

The new Houdini is plus 40 Elo at best when in falls in the arms of the testers who are living in the real world........

Note that I wrote at best....

My guess is that
houdini3 is going to be at least 41 elo better than houdini2 in the ipon rating list.

I am going to wait to the ipon rating list before deciding if to buy houdini3 and we are going to see who is right.
