I read about this release in Chess2U Forum yesterday; I was hoping that someone in this forum would post here... it seems that I have to do it! ;)

HoudiConfig for Houdini 3 is available!

HoudiConfig 1.7

So, only original copies of Houdini 3 can use HoudiConfig 1.7, that should still work with previous versions, as far as I understood; Thomas Miller also asks to Robert if the default piece values are the following ones:
Thomas Miller wrote:@Robert, the "Default Values" button doesn't work properly, or this is correct?

93 pawn value
400 knight value
400 bishop value
600 rook value
1100 queen value
42 bishop pair value
These values seem strange to me, but I guess that CLOP by Rémi Coulom is involved in some manner. Of course I do not know if that version is original or not.

Have fun!

Robert Houdart posted this in another thread:

The "HoudiniConfig" tuning should no longer work with Houdini 3.
In due course (could take a couple of months) I intend to release a special "Tuning" version of Houdini 3 with an officially supported configuration tool for modifying internal evaluation parameters.

Robert

Hello Carl:

Are you saying that version 1.6 is best, and not the newly released 1.7?
Sorry for the confusion. :?

I did not say it. AFAIK, HoudiConfig 1.6 supports Houdini 1.5, 1.5a, 2.0, 2.0b and 2.0c... but I can be wrong. What is sure is that HoudiConfig 1.6 does not support Houdini 3 because HoudiConfig 1.6 was released before Houdini 3. IIRC, HoudiConfig is a tool by Matthias Gemuh (the author of Chess GUI) with the priceless help of Richard Vida (the author of Critter).

OTOH HoudiConfig 1.7 seems a good intention to also support Houdini 3, but nothing more: Graham reminds in this post what Robert Houdart said about HoudiConfig 1.7: changing values with this tool does not have any effect in the real internal work of Houdini 3. I already read it after writing about HoudiConfig 1.7, but anyway thanks to Graham for the reminder in this topic. Here is the original post by Robert:

According to him, he will release an official tool for modifying the internal evaluation parameters of Houdini 3 in a couple of months more less. I think that it is needless to say that this tool will only work with official (not pirated) versions. I guess that this tool will be a free update to Houdini 3 buyers, but who knows?

For the moment, it seems that you can not modify internal parameters of Houdini 3 since Robert said what he said. You will have to wait for this new official tool.

So, I think that HoudiConfig 1.6 and 1.7 will do exactly the same work. I hope that I have answered your question.

Thanks, Jesús, I get it now. :)
The official tool, yet to be released, should be interesting as well.

I believe that Robert said a new version that is tune-able not the current version of Houdini 3...
And that tune-able version will come with an official tuner.
I also believe he will charge a whole new price for that version.
