The goal of the match is not to promote any engine, it's about having fun.
Don't project too much on it.

Are you sure that a 30'000 kn/s 16 cores is about = to an 6 cores at 21'500 kn/s ?

If its the case, spending so much money for (23.5/21.5) only 9.3% faster cpu is not worth it..... imo

I don't see what's bad with i7-3770 either. It's only 4 cores, at 3.4 Mhz each, and can either be overclocked or not, and much cheaper and it's the latest... for high end users (Ivy Bridge).
I do not overclock mine (at the momment), and the whole computer tower stays almost completely cold, day and night, AND it's not such a slow timing is it?
Hi Shimon,

I've ordered Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 from a big PC store here in Jordan and even though it's quite expensive, around 1500 $ for the CPU only,I am quite convinced that my near future system will suffice my needs at least for 3-4 years.....

Still figuring out the other components of the system but one thing is sure....No water cooling systems will be involved......A lot of headache me think

Not the goal, but certainly the effect :)

Yes it has been a great encounter so far. 80+ people watching on playchess, plus others wahtching a live broadcast outside playchess. I doubt that any of the normal tournaments can match those numbers. All credit to the sponsors of this match who made it possible through personal donations.

For those of us who are into live computer chess for the sport, this match is the closest thing to a WCCC we are going to get, since the regular Computer Olympiad which hosted the WCCC is not taking place this year.

Why didn't you buy a cheaper 3930k that you can likely OC to the same value ?

You should wait for version Houdini 5D to feel sulfur.
Maybe, I can't be friendly, but let me be useful.
