Stockfish is a very good option, but its evaluations are not so fine.
I'm curious... This afternoon I'll run a short match between Stockfish on my iPhone 4S and Hiarcs on my New ipad (= iPad 3?). They both have the same CPU, despite the iPad is slightly faster than the iPhone. Later i might add some more programs (Shredder for instance, or tChess Pro, ChessGenius, Chess (Tiger), Fritz, Deep Green Chess, Viktor 2,...)

(+ some others if someone suggest them...)

No, Android is always and always the secondary market behind iOS. It has more market share, but it means nothing as most of it come from cheap devices and users who will never consider purchasing any kind of thing. Higher market share only benefits the hardware vendors.

Werner, in our group we mainly use Android/IOS OS, so we are not so used to other ones, sorry.
In my case I only have Android devices - the examples given above are for Android ones - but I hope WP8 will success, as Microsoft is a good partner and a better supporter. :)
I am still using my Acer phone running on Windows Mobile 6.5, with its wide scope of chess programs: Pocket Fritz 4, PocketGrandmaster, Pocket Shredder, ChessGenius, Mobile ThinkerBoard, ScidPocket, CEBoard...etc.

Marcel, let me know the results of that interesting match. We have made a lot of them, but I want to know your results.
I think 15+10 and 20 games is the minimum time/games to have an approximate idea.
For when Prédateur on Android?.

I have the first game going on currently.

I decided for a 4-games match between each engine, at 30mn/game for each side. all games running on the same device (the iPad). I switch between apps. That way, same hardware for each program, and no risk to lose on time because of human operator. A bit tedious though.

I'll post the result after each game in the Tournament sub-forum.

PS: my first name is Julien. ;)

Werner wrote:Hi Alex,
I use Nokia 820 here and I did not install an app to connect to FICS..
I think, there are some of them, have a look at windowsphone.com:
Chess4All supports the two popular online chess servers – FICS and ICC.

Happy New Year
Werner
Thanks , I have checked the WP App Store and see Chess4All that connects to ICC and FICS. But from the description it is hard to tell if premove is option or not.

Alex, I haven't seen any app supporting pre-move. Why do you need it?

If you don't have premove then you will lose many won games or lose drawn games if your opponent is using premove. When you get down to the last 10 seconds in a game with no increment but mate takes 10 moves or more then you may as well give up winning. When I play online with PocketGM to connect to FICS then I have to try and get games with increment so to compensate the time lost in entering moves. When at home then I can get by with ICC chess on iPad as that supports premove.
