Hello

so far in 23 games 3 losses. I had 2 games were Houdini lost in time that I adjudicated to draw. I am not sure about the time losses and think my setup might have a bug. It would be nice in if in Fritz gui there would be the possibility in tournament mode to add some seconds for each move like you can do in engine-engine mode. Maybe with netchess there are a few important seconds lost and then when verry close to timcontrol such time losses happen.

From what I've seen while following a lot of Houdini games and analyzing them after, is that when Houdini loses (apart when the position is already compromised) it is usually always for a refutation it didn't "see" and with more time it is found. To make an example of this behavior just look at the game against Equinox in the previous tournament.

It seems to me that the pruning of Houdini, while giving it that tremendous strength, at the same time is the major cause of its losses. If Robert could find a way to tailor the pruning in a way that these sort of things don't happen then Houdini would become almost unbeatable. ...
hi Fabio, the game you refer to was the only loss of Houdini in its 42(!) games in the engine festival tournament. Isn't that almost unbeatable enough ?

At the other hand in this tournament at much longer time control, Houdini already has 4 losses in 20 games. Coincidence ? we just must wait for more games to come to draw any conclusion.

I must learn how to use that.
You can do things like this with it:

Incredible !

I thought you could only have 2 engines analysing in Shredder GUI. Even more respect for that GUI now !

I don't know of a limit (besides space on the screen) in the classic and I don't see why one should exsist at all!?

But I have to admit that the picture is more a "proof of concept" then of real value. In reality it makes no sence to run engines for analysis with such a wide elo gap as seen in the picture. It would be enough to have ~4 engines which really play different and are not too far away regarding Elo. If you try to find 4 top MP-engines which are close and different in style it already gets difficult ...
Doing the above for some real purpose is just a waste of electricity :-)

Hi ALL

I am sorry , but I decided to chancel this gauntlet. I had too many time losses by Houdini (running on the remeote machine), maybe I did something wrong with the netchess adapter setup.
Thank you for following my tournament(s).

lets see what comes next....

after my Engine Festival 2012 I started a Houdini 3 gauntlet. Opponents are the first 5 engines after Houdini.
Time controll is very long, a game can last 8 hrs. max.
Again 4 cpu and ponder ON.
Informations and live games transmission can be found on my webpage.

I use 2 quad machine for this gauntlets, Houdini 3 is loaded remotely with netchess.

enjoy :)

May be the client app have not enough CPU. Houdini is well known to hog the CPU (and OS). Did you try to rise the priority of netchess ?
