Looking for games

Post by Rebel »

I am working on a project which hope to publish soon. To increase the success rate I am looking for comp-comp games where one comp has at least 2800+ elo and the games are played on a reasonable level. No bullet games. 40/4 games at least.

I already have all the games of CCRL and CEGT, they are the base of this project but I just want more.

So if there are people out there that have lots of comp-comp games (10,000 at least) that meet the above criteria please be so kind to spend some time to zip and upload them on mediafire or another free server.

Thanks in advance.

The basic idea is that when a 3000+ elo engine plays move X it's good enough for a 200 less elo rated engine to play move X as a book move.

At first I created a database of 8,5 million positions played by 2950+ elo rated programs extracted from CCRL and CEGT games with a depth of 25 moves.

1200 self-play games at 1+1 using predefined openings gave a considerable elo jump. A few examples:

Code: Select all

PGN_DEPTH = 4   54.8%   (4441 hits) (+3.7 moves per game)
PGN_DEPTH = 5   53.7%   (3741 hits) (+3.1 moves per game)
PGN_DEPTH means the number of moves to play from a predefined PGN with openings.

Then one step further, 13.5 million positions from 2900+ elo rated programs and a new opening sets gave:

Code: Select all

PGN_DEPTH=5   55.6%  (3995 hits) (+3.3 moves per game)
PGN_DEPTH=8   54.0%  (2278 hits) (+1.9 moves per game)
What's amazing is that the average of 1.9 database hit per game is good for a 4% improvement, actually I still find it hard to believe. Nevertheless it's hard to ignore these figures and volume does seem to do the trick. Hence I want games, lots more games.

Anyway, I will further expand the database (from 2800 and up, maybe even 2700 and up) and make it available. The utility to create the database and the source code how to retrieve the (book) moves from the database.

We may have arrived at a stage that comp-comp games become as important as GM games for the traditional opening book.

Last, if it works then it works best for the lower rated programs among us, the lower the better :lol:

Interesting idea, Ed. Engines have been making an impact on opening theory, it's undeniable. You can also check the ChessWar and WBEC game archives. I know they have a lot of games to download.

Ed,

Here are 7533 games that fit your criteria from a rating list I maintained before I joined the CCRL. The time control was 4 minutes + 3 seconds per move. The Elos are based on the CCRL 40/4 ratings, and the games I have uploaded solely consist of games where at least one engine is rated 2800 or more.
