Could it be due to using too many cores and/or an incompatibility with the new 16-core machine that triggers a bug?
This is not a knock against Martin, though I think many of us would like to hear more of an explanation.
Thanks,
Carl
It's going to be very difficult to figure out exactly why it's crashing though.
Perhaps it could be privately tested by someone who has similar hardware to Martin?
Capital punishment would be more effective as a preventive measure if it were administered prior to the crime.

It does crash on just 4 cores, but not very often. I guess 16 cores makes the problem worse. I didn't know Martin had withdrawn it though.
But it's not playing with 16 cores - just 4 cores.

OK, well it crashes on 4 too. But I'm surprised it had to be withdrawn, the crashes don't occur that often. An over-reaction I think.

Was Chiron withdraw? I didn't know about that.

The post from TCEC says:
I am sad to announce that Chiron has withdrawn from Stage 3 due to excessive crashing. The remaining opponents will be given an automatic win (a bye). Hopefully we will see the full power of Chiron in Season 2!
So I assume the author withdrew it. It was on the bottom with only 1/2 point so it's not like it's chances for stage 4 have been ruined.

I'd thought it was well known not to set up an egbb path in Chiron when using ChessGUI.
It's okay to put a path for both Nalimov and GaviotaTablebases because only one of them will be used.
Although I've had the occasional time loss with Chiron on 4 cores and 8 cores, they've not really been that frequent (perhaps once in every 30 games or so at worst).

All of the Chiron games should be awarded to the the opponent (including those already played), otherwise it's unfair. Just my opinion.

I think you are completely correct. The players who now do not have to play Chiron have an advantage - an automatic win. In this case the only program that is affected is Hiarcs because there was a draw there. So this is unfair to Hiarcs.
In this case Hiarcs is struggling near the bottom so it might not matter, but there is the issue of tie-breaks and such too.

When a human player withdraws from a tournament, recent (and fair) practice has been to erase his/her score and have all his games thus treated as a bye for the opponent. I hope the same thing is done here, as Graham has suggested.

Yes agreed, Martin must have been very unlucky with it.
