Superfinal: Houdini Vs. Stockfish!

Post by Ajedrecista »

Hello Martin:

Standings after 34 games out of 36:

Code: Select all

N Engine Pts SB Houdin Stockf Rybka Komodo

1 Houdini 3        10.0 76.25        100=1  ====== =1==11
2 Stockfish 120413  9.5 75.75 011=0         ==1=== ==1===
3 Rybka 4.1         8.5 71.75 ====== ==0===        ====1
4 Komodo 4534       6.0 55.75 =0==00 ==0=== ====0
Remaining games:

Code: Select all

35      Komodo 4534         Rybka 4.1
36 Stockfish 120413         Houdini 3
The only combination for Rybka to tie with SF is 0-1 in both games 35 and 36. Then, Houdini would have 11 points, SF and Rybka would tie with 9.5 and last but not least (single core!) would be Komodo with no less than 6 points! If I did not go wrong with the math, these would be the tiebreakers:

Code: Select all

SB(Stockfish) = 2.5*11 + 3.5*9.5 + 3.5*6 = 81.75
SB(Rybka)     =   3*11 + 2.5*9.5 +   4*6 = 80.75

SB(Stockfish) > SB(Rybka).
Other combinations put SF ahead of Rybka in points.

Thank you very much for nTCEC! Do you know when the Superfinal will start? Thanks in advance.

Regards from Spain.

I can write something in the box, but i don't know how to post it up. I sometimes get a choice of twitter, yahoo, facebook, google etc. but i don't know what to do with them. Can't i bypass them?
I didn't get an answer to this yet.
But never mind, I'll ask some other time if not now.
I still have chessbomb for chat.

Regarding the results, it seems to me to be representative of what should have been, although i feel it seems to go against the spirit of many people to say so, as everyone has different interests.

Houdini 11.0 (ought to be best because even houdini 1.5a was stronger than rybka).
Stockfish 9.5 (because after 2-3 years, there ought to be a second program that can get a couple of elos above the old program Rybka, and SF may have been the highest candidate for that)
Rybka 9.0 (because Rybka is still, a past leader, and it set a standard which must be responded to fully, before we can really confirm that we have moved on already. And it shows us we are still in the middle of it)
Komodo 6.5 (is very great for only one proccessor compared to the others, and it leaves us in some ambiguity as to if it would have come top, on equal hardware, but that still, on one cpu, it still makes sense to come last from the four).

But some people might hate my viewpoint, and are smarter than i am because they have NOT written theirs!

I am maybe a little biassed due to my preference that the engine which is top, should be well above the next in line. (otherwise i don't know which one to use).

Some people want Stockfish to always be undisputed top, because it is free, so it deserves it.
Houdini was just that but then it went commercial. (Maybe SF also would).

The results are perfectly in line with expectations, which in itself is remarkable :).
