The 'problem' is that Uri is worried that while Houdini 4 is already beating Stockfish in LTC and on good Hardware like yours, a newer version of Houdini will COMPLETELY outclass Stockfish and CRUSH it.
So, according to him, its OK if Stockfish keeps getting updated, but he will cry "FOUL" if Houdini is updated !

I only said that I prefer not to see private versions in the match.
I have no objection if Robert Houdart release update for houdini4 to his customers and this update continue the match and in this case it is possible that good results may convince me to buy houdini.

Note that of course the tester is free to do what he wants and I only expressed my preference that are not always against updating houdini and if Robert houdart release a new version that people can get then I fully support new houdini in the match.

What do you feel "curious" here?
It is clear that he means the graphs look strange considering both graphs come from the same 8 moves start position plus 13 identically calculated half moves further on.
At first I found it also quite strange until I noticed the second graph is compressed by a factor ~5.3 (and the GUI probably did some rounding down the evals for the second graph).
This should explain most of the difference for full understanding though the full eval pgn is needed.

ernest wrote:Also, I am surprised nobody tries to find an explanation as to why Houdini "seems" to perform better vs Stockfish in these games, compared to other LTC matches.

Of course it first has to be remembered that less than 100 games have been played so far.

Is it due to the narrow choice of openings? (is Stockfish not so good on Sicilians?)

Also note that a few games were played with Stockfish Syzygy compiles by Ronald de Man, dated Feb 18 to Feb 21 (1st compile), known to be buggy.
(see http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51378 )
If Stockfish is not so good on Sicilian Defense, it's a problem of Stockfish and it's not a Sicilian Defense limitation! The opening library includes 248 differents opening lines (496 games, and not Sicilian Defense only), we will see at the end of the match...

About Ronald de Man's buggy versions, 4 games only (2 opening line) were played by Stockfish 180214 and Stockfish 210214 (also this is the 2nd version), and final score was 2-2 (½-½; ½-½; 1-0; 1-0). I don't think this is a problem for the match. There is no need to look for excuses.

This LTC match is different from the other played so far. I don't know about same time control (120/40, 60/20, 15'+15") on the same hardware configuration. Houdini mean speed is ~20.000 kN/s and Stockfish mean speed is ~13.000 kN/s, so Houdini mean depth is ~30 plies and Stockfish mean depth is ~42 plies at this time control (so far)! This is the only match played so far at this time control with such a high number of games (TCEC-Superfinal Head-to-Head = 48 games = 24 opening lines). So if you want contest result of this match, I invite you to performe a match with the same characteristics, so we can compare the results. Otherwise, it's just talk...

What are you talking about ???

Talkchess site is one of the most respected forums for Computer Chess!

It's a pity that there are a few clever guys like you who are trying to damage and bringing dark shadow over this great site !!!

But my 6th sense says that Talkchess Moderators will take serious actions over a such persons (like you) !!

Btw,
Stockfish is doing very good even at 40/120 Sicilian openings too

I have no words to say, exception:
Stockfish is from another planet!!!

And last (who want to see the real performance of Stockfish),
I suggest latest new Stockfish versions to be tested with Perfect 2014 book

Hopes this helps...

I only said that it would be "interesting" to look for an explanation as to why Houdini "seems" to perform better vs Stockfish in these games, compared to other LTC matches.
No more, no less...

Assuming of course that error-bars are not overriding the whole debate!

Houdini wins again! Nice positional play and still +4 on Stockfish.
