Post by Gusev »

The results are available at http://www.foscec.org/test/index.htm. The games can be downloaded from http://www.foscec.org/test/games.pgn. All participating free, open-source chess engines scored some victories in this 1'+1" FOSCEC run-up blitz test. Even the last place finisher Toga II 3.0 won one of its games against Gull 3 in a spectacular fashion.

Very interesting standard computer bad play for white. Sure every engine must try to avoid this.

Very interesting. I think a lot of engines would fall for this attack.

22. Ra3 just looks dumb: however it is probably too late to save White at that point. 17. c4 looks like the fatal error. Houdini suggests 17. Be3 g4 hxg4 Nxg4 19. Nbd2, and White is still under pressure but defending. I also think maybe d4 at some point might be in order, with the standard idea that a break in the center is the way to counter a wing attack.
